Employers should no longer withhold taxes from employees checks and everyone should then write checks to the IRS and state tax boards quarterly like I do or once a month so it won't feel like such a kick in the nuts. This would get rid of all of the fiscal liberals.

Yes, it is essentially the same thing, but the difference is when you have to actually sit down and write a check from money you already have, it hits home.

Where I would like to see it changed, is in doing away with the whole withholding game, then filing to see how much you can pull back.

I would much rather have a system where you simply paid your taxes weekly. I am fine with a progressive system, but everyone should pay something. The poor could pay 1%. Those making "88 money" could pay around 25%. But I would keep jacking the rate for people making ludicrous money, topping off at maybe 40%. But that would be for people making 5 mil/year. Our current system tops out at maybe 250K.

Ahhh, such a system already exists. You can use an Excel spreadsheet to enter your taxable earnings, calculate your taxes and then pay the taxes online. I do this weekly. Some weeks I pay taxes some I don't. Towards the end of the year, I catch up my deductible expenses and adjust my payments. Better than quarterly payments for me anyway. The Feds don't care as long as they get their money.

You are still required to file an annual return and play the stupid game of trying to prove the money you spent is worthy of deduction.

THIS is the root of the problem. It is also the root of the politician's power.

It shouldn't matter to government how I spend my money. Coke and hookers should have the same deductibility as a church donation. NONE.

The trouble is, there are millions of people that make a damn good living helping others figure out how to avoid pay taxes. And those people are in no mood to give up this racket.
