That would mean that the NFL brass is admitting a mistake.

See "tuck rule" to figure out how they're going to handle this.

I think that they need to look at what constitutes possession, and redefine it. That should be viewed as an interception, possession, and fumble followed by recovery.

Trust me, I'm not naive enough to think the NFL has the nads to admit they were wrong. I'm just outraged that the Steelers almost got screwed out of a victory after they put together such a great ballgame. All those calories spent trying to win the game mean NOTHING to these fucking refs. They'll do whatever the fuck they want within the loose parameters of their "rules."

I agree.

Won't happen, but I agree.

But, the ref can't make judgements based on how they think the rules should read -- only how they do read. I'm guessing it really pained the "tuck rule" dude to have to make that call, but he was right...regardless how freaking ludicrous the rule is.

I disagree. I can't think of so much as one instance where this rule has been applied unevenly. It's been very consistent, although it doesn;t always come up often.

To make a catch, you must retain possession the entire time you're on the ground, up until the play is dead, or you get back up. And it's been that way as long as I can remember.

Vanderjagt is the Jose Canseco of the NFL. He spouts shit and pisses people off but the reality is, he spouts shit that exposes people for what they are. That twinkle toe faggot with the bleached hair and earrings, that towel-waving homo cheerleader.....he actually is right. Dungy and Manning are pussies. They fucking blew it again. Time to fire Dungy. He sucks.
Who missed the field goal again? 45 yards, indoor for a kicker of his caliber should have been an automatic.

Fuck Vandy too.

So he could roll over ten times, get up, fumble, and its incomplete? BULLSHIT.

Trex, don't argue with the administering of the rules that are in place. G-dammit, why can't people understand that it was ruled CORRECTLY. The rule itself flat out sucks, if you wanna argue that.

Guess Troy should've never got up and it woulda been a catch.

uh Delhomme, is ready. With Steve Smith, CAR is ready to return and take it down. Sit down Plummer fans, not happening.

You know though. Tony may retire, it was asked of him and he said it was a possibility after his son's death. Hate to use tragedy for team prospecting, but....

Good call. I recommend hiring Gruden who I'm sure will jump ship to take over another Super team Dungy can't get over the hump. With an aging Bucs defense, the Colts probably only have to offer up a few draft picks to make it happen.

How's Foster doing?

And Peppers?

Anything can happen. But the Panthers are going to have to play a lot better than they did this week if they expect to get to the Super Bowl.

Think the league would be saying today that their man 'blew' the call if Indy had forced OT and gone on to win the game...?

:meds:

They would have put an entirely different spin on it, assuring us all that their man called it by the book.

Yes, the 'book,' which is, btw, not available for the public to see.

WHAT a fuckin' load of horseshit this is.

How does an official overrule a call like that?
He doesn't know the rule..?
When he's in the booth looking at the play he's also in audio consultation with others who supposedly also know the NFL rule book.

The league tried damn hard to get Indy over yesterday.

The fix was IN.

.....again.

And btw, where is King Dinsdale, who kept ASSuring us yesterday that he knew for a FACT that the non-INT was indeed called by the book....?

That fuckin' jerkoff belongs in the league office.

Coltfan didn't choke, you idiot.

Bronco masters? Remind me of how Dungver fared at Indy in the playoffs the past few years.

My gawd, you're one stupid SOB.

Big props to the Steelers for playing lights out on D and taking it to the Colts in their crib. They even had to overcome wretched officiating and the rare Bettis fumble but they left with the W which is all that matters. If they go to Denver and win that will be maybe the most incredible feat in post season history, winning 3 straight road games in the tough AFC.

Let's see, I call yet another thing correctly, yet somehow that gets convoluted to become PopBODE...again.

Seems to be a pattern developing.

Yea, the pattern is you're getting your ass kicked.

Here's what you said yesterday.
Dinsdale wrote:You know, my heart agrees with you (as I'm sure Madden would). But adherence to the rules says it wasn't a pick.

Two knees = on the ground...the same ground that you must retain possession of the ball when you're on it for any catch to be legal.

This water heas been tread before. The rule has been applied consistently in the instances I've seen it come up. If he would have gotten to his feet and then fumbled, it was a pick. He never got up before losing the ball, which = incomplete pass, and a really fancy looking knockdown.
And here's what Mike Pereira said
"He maintained possession long enough to establish a catch," Pereira said. "Therefore, the replay review should have upheld the call on the field that it was a catch and fumble."

Under league officiating procedure, an "act common to the game" is defined as controlling the ball long enough to hand it, pitch it or pass it. But Pereira noted that this definition only applies when there is "contact with a defensive player and the ball comes loose, which did not happen here."
Bud must be particularly good up in the U&L eh?

EXACTLY.

Not sure about the "fix was in," but the reversal was horseshit. How convenient for the NFL to admit one of its officials made a mistake ... AFTER the team that would have been otherwise fucked hangs on.

If Idiot Kicker makes the FG and Indy manages to win the game, there's no way in HELL the NFL admits a mistake was made.

And that's a LOCK, fellas.

Btw, as a sidenote, I was listening to this game on Westwood One on Sirius, somewhere in the Smoky Mountains last weekend, en route to South Carolina.

Dave Sims and Bob Trumpe were beside themselves over the reversal of the call -- immediately saying it would be one of the most disputed calls in the history of the league if Indy were to win the game. Aside from cracking up -- literally -- during my second 700-mile day of driving listening to them and the last 5 minutes of this game, and after finally being able to see the highlights once I reached my destination, I was wondering what the reaction was in here.

Nice thread, fuckers. Damn, it's good to be back.
