I gotta say, I'll never understand how Bama got a share of the title in '78. They ended up with the same final record as USC and USC beat Bama head to head that season in Birmingham.

Splitting that title was just plain stupid.

yup, crazy ass Charlie, straight out of rehab and in to the NFL record books, now he is back on his beach cruiser riding from tailgate to tailgate at USC games eating our food and telling stories about the games and American Gladiators.
Great guy, my kids love him, he's been through a ton but is always smiling and up for a game of catch. he also umpires USSSA baseball games at Big League Dreams in Chino

i saw that American Glad's thing at wiki.

though, i repeat what i say: Oklahoma was the only team to beat every team on it's schedule in 78.

i knew what i was getting into by saying it. OU loses at Lincoln on a Sims fumble inside the NU 10....otherwise this is a moot point.

destroy NU in the Orange Bowl rematch.

Van wrote:Well, yes, it is a homer call because like you said, "...best QB at calling plays at the line scrimmage and making adjustment s in college that I have ever seen play the college game."

You're an OU fan. You haven't seen nor have you followed the QBs of other teams nearly as closely as you followed Heupel at OU.

For all you know Matt Ryan or Matt Leinart (or any of countless others from other teams) were better at checking off at the line of scrimmage. I'm not saying they necessarily were or weren't but you have no idea of knowing so it's definitely a homer call to say Heupel was the best you ever saw.

Just say he was the best you saw at OU and leave it at that.
I've seen Matt Leinart play and I saw Matt Ryan play as well. I haven't seen them all but Heupel was better than who you mentioned calling for adjustments before the snap.

You know this, how? How do you know Heupel was better than Leinart at checking off? How could you possibly know?

You know Heupel was better than the hundreds of other QBs you've seen no more than a half dozen times?

How?

You weren't even in OU's huddle, much less all those other huddles. Never mind all those other QBs you've barely seen, you don't know what plays were called and what plays were substituted in OU's play calling.

On what basis could you possibly make such a blanket statement?

Heupel was a good QB, Cheeto Teeth was the shitty one, his winning the Heisman was a makeup for not giving heupel one

Link me to where I ever said he didn't.

My quote about Charles White was in response to a comment about Billy Sims, vs Charles White. As was alluded to before White was the lone TB in an I formation offense which ran him thirty times a game. Charles White was asked to carry a much bigger load than Billy Sims.

He then went on to the NFL, where he acquitted himself fairly nicely.

My mentioning of Josh Heupel was as part of a list of Heisman winners who produced for their college teams but who otherwise had no NFL level ability. No one could include Charles White in such a group. The guy was a legitimate NFL RB. Josh Heupel was merely a system QB. He wasn't a "best in the nation" talent, like a Billy Sims.

Josh Heupel doesn't even start for USC, or for many Pac 10 teams. He won a Heisman though, same as Jason White, Eric Crouch, Tommy Frazier and a bunch of other system QBs who weren't good enough to ever play a down in the NFL.

Simply describing different types of Heisman winners, is all.

Definitely.

Still, would you like to also compare the NFL stats of USC's Heisman winning White to those of OU's Heisman winning White? While we're at it, let's also compare USC's other Heisman trophy winners and their NFL stats to, well, just about anybody else's...

Let's just go ahead and not, k?
