I'm beating your ass up one side of the room and down the other so you might want to hold off on that for now.
What are the defense needs of those 4 or 5 nations and how do they relate to those of the US?
They have many many many more people to protect. They have WAY more area to protect. They have more large cites and small towns to protect. They have more mineral recourses to protect. They have more historical sites to protect. They have more infrastructure to protect. They have more of everything to protect.
What is the length of defensible coastline of those nations and how do they compare to the US?
They have 66,000kms we have are 20,000kms so they have more then 3 times our coastline.
How much money do you think is acceptable to spend on R&D to create countermeasures to next-gen weapons like China’s anti-carrier missle?(sic)
A total military budget of 300 (which is what I quoted before and which is 3 time that of China) seems about right. They can spend it how the Congress sees fit.
If we slash our military now, as China is clearly ramping up their military for active use, how much will it cost us in time, money and resources to play catch up once they invade Japan, Taiwan or US Pacific Territories?
How dumb are you? That question assumes facts not in evidence. Try again 'counselor.'
Where, specifically, in the four branches of the military should we begin cutting (besides R&D)? Should we cut a division in the Navy or a division in the Army? Do you even know the difference between the two?
Since you are so smart I will let you cut or keep what you see fit, but you have to do it on half the cash.
