It may be paranoia to think THIS exercise is prepping for martial law, but the dangers of a standing army mixed with an indifferent population is a recipe for disaster. Or do you somehow dismiss that premise?

Actually it is a simple and undeniable observation. Yes, military exercises do occassionally take place off of military reservations and those do require logistical coordination with local authorities to make sure everyone knows what's going on. That isn't a problem and categorically IS NOT what is happening on this exercise.

This exercise involves the FBI and DEA among other unmentioned Federal alphabet agencies. They certainly aren't there to coordinate logistics with the locals. Anyone suggesting this has nothing to do with training for martial law is either a liar or an idiot...or both.

Who said it was supposed to be a secret? And why else would the FBI and DEA et al be involved?

I really don't know enough about it to put in my 2cents, but I would not be at all shocked if you are correct.

Looking at that -53 sitting on the beach makes me cringe. Between the sand getting into every crevice and cranny requiring a complete teardown of the aircraft to the salt water corrosion from it just sitting there next to the surf... ugh. As a former maintenance officer I can picture the wrenches all looking skyward and yelling, "Why?? Why??? WHY?!?"

As for the thing leaking oil, like the Chinook, you don't worry about all the oil spraying everywhere while flying, you just get scared when it stops leaking.
