Funny thing -- after they reported Armstead's comm it in the fishwrap, in the comments section after the article, a frequent poster who's a transplant from SEC Land commented something like:

"Wait... a PAC school is taking their biggest fastest athlete and switching him to defense? Did you guys join the SEC or something? You guys might win a championship yet, by following the formula that's proven to work."

Something like that, anyway. Usually goes the other way (see 5 Star local Colt Lyerla... who should be at LB, not TE -- but the NFL is chalk-full of Oregon TEs... LBs, not so much).

And with the additions of Florida recruits Nelson Agholor and Leonard Williams USC has now risen to a 4.07 average star rating and rivals' #7 ranking, and they're still in the running for three more five-stars.

Cal? A wet fart in an elevator. They've signed no one of note today, on their way to falling all the way to 30th. Yep, 30th...sixth in the Pac 12.

DOMINOES!!

Jsc, what was that quote of M2's you were saving for future reference?

Stanford lands Andrus Peat who, none too surprisingly, speaks and represents himself very well. Yeah, in terms of O-Line recruits, it's been nothing but USC and Stanford in the Pac 12. Cal? Not even a blip on the radar.

If Armstead ends up at DE, we'll have bookends with 4 star Alex Balducci (sorry, Toejam, for signing a local). Sure the hell need the help on D-line.

Balducci got several offers, and took exactly one visit. Nice to not have the good in-staters leave... although lost a good QB to... Penn. Fuggin rich kids. Still pissed off at Suh.

Weak class for Oregon so far. I'd be shitting M2s, except we stacked up deep with redshirt studs last year... thank goodness.

Every TE in the country seems to want to play at the Tight End Factory. "Stole" 4-star Evan Baylis from Colorado... nice.

Not every TE, considering the fact that USC landed the #1 TE in the country, 6'5", 250 lb Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick.

USC also landed the #1 FB in the country, Jahleel Pinner. The funny thing there is that despite Pinner being the top prospect at his position, he's still only a three-star. He's one of only two USC three-stars, and he's #1 in the country?

No one wants to play fullback.

What's a "fullback"?

Sin,
Chip Kelly

Dante Rosario (also an in-stater, sorry Toejam) started at FB. When they switched to spread-option, he moved to TE... which he now playson Sundays (one of at least 3 QQMF TEs who played in the playoffs this season).

Dwayne Stanford, 4 star WR, all 6'5 of him, signed out of Cincinnati, OH... even though Meyer made a big run at him.

The reason for Oregon... listen up, ASSHOLES... he took his initial interest... because he liked the uniforms. Not the only guy to say so, either.

I guess it worked.

Although 4 star WRs seem to be a dime-a-dozen in this class.

On a much less interesting note -- FCS Big Sky Portland State is going the fuck off today. Without checking, I believe they pulled a 4-star.

Scooped some (if not most) of the Portland-area talent away from Oregon and OS (and Udub and Wazzu). They've signed 10 Portland-area kids, 13 Oregonians... a couple of them are pretty good. A lot of the Portland guys opt to stay home, and either live downtown, or stay with Ma and Pa. I think if it was me, and someone was paying my room and board, I don't think I'd choose a commuter shool... but no one asked me.

Watch out, Montana schools, they're coming. Ever since Nigel Burton replaced Glanville, things are changing quickly in the Park Blocks.

No reason Portland State shouldn't dominate the FCS -- it's the biggest school in the state (not Oregon or OS), and I believe is the biggest FCS school. High-end academics (especially for engineering students), and it's not just an urban campus, it's smack-dab downtown with some serious nightlife. Should be a mecca for second-tier athletes.

And therein lies the rub -- a 35 year old coach who can pull 4-stars to a FCS school and recruit his ass off probably isn't long for FCS, and the $150K salary that comes with it. His quick turnaroud there is going to net him a bigtime job, sooner than later (Chip's replacement, should he move on?).

Stanford signs Kyle Murphy, giving them two five-star O-Lineman to match the two USC landed.

So, apparently having strong academics doesn't preclude landing top-shelf talent. This may be the strongest recruiting class Stanford has ever managed.

Holy crap, Stanford just signed Aziz Shittu, a five-star D-Lineman. That gives them three five-stars—as many as USC, Bama, Florida St or any other team in the country—and now they're all the way up to #5 in the overall rankings.

Stanford?!

Looks like M2 was close. He just had the wrong Bay Area team.

Speaking of next year, Oregon has the first 5 star 2013 commit (have for about 3 months).

http://rivals.yahoo.com/highschool/foot ... ner-117565

Shouldn't lose him before then, I wouldn't think. Pretty much a bigger version of DAT.

Stanford has the line, but I doubt they'll have the skill position players to compete with Oregon or USC in the coming ears... but I supposewe should go ahead and play the games anyway... assuming Kal's defensive front maulers doesn't incapacitate Oregon's and USC's skill players.

Armstead wants to major in sports marketing.

We'll have Snoop around, too... oh, joy. He spends a good bit of time in Oregon before the DAT arrival, anyway (something about his drug cartel being based here, or something).

I kinda laughed at the Mora hire.

Not laughing anymore. He's doing a great job, albeit before coaching a game. UCLA should be pulling studs on a regular basis.

PAC ain't fucking around the last couple of years... funny how money does that.

The influx of TV money doesn't seem to be hurting anyone's cause (OS got raped like Kal, though, for the exact same reason, Sark poaching recruiters at the last minute).

Speaking of money, did anyone else here see that ESPN piece on college recruiting budgets? Any guesses as to which region of the country far and away allocates the most money towards recruiting?

It's truly rather disturbing and even a little sickening, the degree to which the SEC and the University of Texas prioritize football over all other things. The salaries of their coaches, the insane TV contracts, the oversigning/assfucking of every loophole possible, the willingness to trot out onto the field the dumbest of the dumb mercenaries...all in the name of winning 'amateur' football games.

Get a grip, people. This shit really isn't all that important.

Of course, if USC had played by the rules a couplefew years ago, they would have run away with the #1 ranking.
