Go back and read Kennedy's opinion in Arizona.
Or you can squirm and lie for 7 more pages.
Immigration attorneys are the ones you are calling a liar. Here is another passage from an attorney web page.
Entering the United States without approval is illegal. So is staying in the U.S. without permission after your visa or other authorized stay has expired. Even violating the terms of a legal entry can make your stay illegal.
The U.S. immigration law offers very few options to go from being illegal or undocumented immigrant to a U.S. permanent resident (with a green card). We briefly describe the most likely possibilities below, but you should see an attorney for further help.

LS,
You quoted a website, I quoted a USSC case. Which one do YOU think is more accurate?

MS,
I quoted sections of our laws.
If your position is actually correct that being in the United States as an undocumented alien isn't illegal, why do we have any immigration laws or border patrol? Why did I need to go thru an immigration check today when I returned to the US?

Because entering the country with out papers is illegal, which I said on page 1.
And what you quoted did not apply to most dreamers.

This is how dreamers got here, full stop. They didn't enter with papers. You just said this is illegal. Yet somehow dreamers haven't broken any laws.

And no, this is not a picture of me and Moving Sale.
Some of you will be delighted to hear this. This is my last post. Promise. Maybe if the board is still around, I'll revisit in a few years. I have some projects I need to get back to, and they will require all my time. Sad to say, I'm not very good at multi-tasking. Before I go I wanted to clear something up with Mikey that was brought up in this thread. I called immigrants from south of the border "friends," and Mikey challenged me on this given my stance on illegal immigration. I refused to answer the challenge, because I felt if I told the truth I would just be called a liar...and I'd have no way to prove otherwise, this being a message board.
Well, here you go Mikey. I'll explain why I call these people my friends. Since 1981 I have run my own construction company. I have built millions of dollars worth of projects all over Southern California. In the process I have directly and indirectly employed hundreds of illegal immigrants. There are a number of reasons for this. The least of which is getting cheap labor. In fact, most of these immigrants make pay comparable to their legal counterparts. The fact is that they've simply taken over the industry. For the most part they are honest, friendly, and hardworking, and I respect them for this.
As time has gone on, I have become friends with many of them. One of them told me I was like a father to him. I loaned a couple others money so they could buy cars. I've sent them to ballgames with their families. I've had dinner at their homes. More recently I vouched for one who had a green card but who had been rounded up by ICE and put in a detention center because he had a DUI. (Hell, not proud of it, but I've had three of them). I was able to convince the immigration court that my friend should be allowed to stay in the country with his wife and children. He is a good, responsible, and honest man. He deserved to be in this country.
I have a
lot of experience with illegal and legal immigrants from south of our border. In all the years I've employed them and become friends with them, I can recall very few bad experiences. White guys, on the other hand...I can tell you all sorts of crazy stories about them. So, why am I so against illegal immigration? I simply think our borders should be maintained and regulated per the laws we have on the books. It
is possible to become a citizen legally. Millions of immigrants do it. Am I a hypocrite for having employed so man illegal immigrants, while at the same time wanting immigration to be legal and orderly?
I'll answer the hypocrisy question this way: I have been in a business that is hugely dependent on illegals whether I like it or not. I didn't make the rules. I simply have had a business to run. I don't like killing animals, and have never been a hunter. But put me deep in the woods with nothing to eat, and hand me a rifle and point to a deer, I'm going to take aim and shoot that fucking deer for dinner. I'll do what I have to do to survive. Sometimes the choices we are offered are not the ones we would like to have.
So there you have it. Yes, I think illegals should be deported and told to gain entry legally, just like all the others who follow the laws and do so. Do I think we should just round them all up at once and ship them off? No, of course not. It would be mayhem. And I don't know about other states, but California would be in huge trouble if so much of its workforce was suddenly given the boot. The effort to clean things up needs to be gradual and humane. But somehow it needs to be done. Otherwise the problem will go on and on, and no example will be set for future immigrants, no lessons will be learned, and our immigration laws will mean nothing.
This was probably more than you wanted to read, and no doubt you still disagree with me. But I did owe you an explanation.
And with that...I am
out!

Dammit ML, you can't leave. This place needs voices of reason like yours.
BTW, that was one damn good explanation that anyone would have trouble arguing with.
It is a shame that the entire construction bidness in socal....and nocal....and pretty damn near everywhere has been undermined by people willing to work for low wages which has forced decent talent to either move elsewhere or go into a different line of work.
Anyhoo, I hope you are full of shit and pop back in here a time or two a week.

His choices were use them and be able to bid competitively or move to another part of the country and make a go of it there. And that ain't exactly easy to do in that business.

Yes.
I have also worked in construction services on the business admin side. We had a fair number of contracts with railroads, gov't agencies etc. They all require background checks and everify so it was done with every new hire. We had a UP bridge job and their background check found "discrepancies" with one of our foreman's SSN. He ghosted when confronted. Dude was a great guy and a reliable hand with an American wife. No reason he couldn't or shouldn't have legalized his status. He didn't. Fuck him.
Good worker? Who gives a shit? Great father? Fuck you. Go play with your kids wherever the fuck you come from.
You are either legally authorized to be in this country or you are not. If you are not authorized to be in this country, you need to leave or be removed. Period. Full stop.

This is what I don't get.
There have been a few wetbacks in Ct that ICE has decided to deport. The press is making a big deal about them because they have been here for years, have families and have stayed out of trouble. And their wives are citizens, which as everyone should know, is a go to the head of the line pass. Yet, they don't. I guess they figured lax enforcement was going to be the rule forever.
I have no sympathy for them. If you stayed here illegally when you had the means to become legal, it is just further evidence you don't give a fukk about our laws. Let them go home and wait....at the back of the line this time.

Ahhhh..there is no place in the US that you could move to and make a go of it without the labor that he utilized. I did the same thing he did for years. I agree with ML's post 100%, and would hate to see him go away since his takes are actually readable and offset the shit slop coming from a lot of others.

So he has been here illegally since he was 9. That means for more than half his life he has been breaking the law. Yeah perfect example of someone who we should embrace with open arms.
