He is an intelligent guy. A math professor at one of the largest universities in America.
I mentioned the political environment in America.

He said, paraphrasing, "It is just a shame that the democrats are going so crazy to get Trump. No matter what it takes, they will not let him be president again."

I really had nothing to say after that, because I have no idea how an otherwise intelligent person could produce such a take.

It just shows how deluded and irrational people become when they hitch their wagon to one of the parties.

A) They see their world view (the 50’s) crumbling. So they will “believe” whatever it takes to hold on to it.

B) They know the pie is only so big and it’s easier to lash out at people with no power than to stand up to the powers that be.
