I disagree, Felix. Charles Rogers is a bust. Roy Williams is already the prima donna, refusing to play when only slightly injured (did it, again this past weekend). Mike Williams hasn't shown his speed and his hands are more like rocks than pillows.

Nonetheless, the primary problem is the O-line. If they're simply not picking up a single blitz during a game, they're openning the gates for anyone to take shots at Joey.

Partially correct, but not completely, and a widely held misconception. If you look back on how it was conceived by Bill Walsh with the 49ers it was based partly on the short passing game, but also on the premise that you run the ball about as often as you pass it. The running game involved alot of motion and misdirection, which also enabled the QB to make use of play action. The WCO offense also brought back to the table the heavy use of tight ends and RBs in the passing game, which had been pretty much lost up to that point. This concept also helped to protect the QB because with the quick passes and rollouts that were part of the plan of attack he didn't have to sit in the pocket waiting for the WRs to get open.

To make this all work you had to have the right personel as well, and Walsh not only went after the players to make his system work, but he also adjusted the system to match the abilities of his players. That's where much of his genius, and yes he was an innovative genius, lied (lay?). RBs had to be able to catch a pass, and it helped if both RBs could not only run but catch. SEs had to be tall, strong and reslient, and have very sure hands, because they were often used on slants over the middle. This was Jerry Rice's bread and butter. I don't know how many times I saw him break a 5-7 yard slant for a long TD. John Taylor was very good at that as well. Roger Craig, as I said before, had at least one season of 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving.

any Offensive System is only as good as its parts.

the Lynns could be running the Single freakin' Wing Offense....and still not block it correctly.

maybe you should re-examine your Vitriol about the WCO....and direct it towards Mr. Millen about the status of your O-Line.

the WCO is PROVEN...and works when it has the proper personnel.

MANY people in here have tried to educate you about that. :P

One other team that has had a small bit of success as of late running it that I've yet to see mentioned.

New England.

As for what exactly it is? Dunno. Why does it work so well? The number one reason, IMO, is that it does not play KYOA, evahh.

You want excitement? Watch a bledsloe or marino thread the needle over the middle 30 yds down field until somebody picks one and runs it back.

You want jewelry? Watch brady screen pass a team to death.

I'll try and put this in its simplest form possible...

The WCO uses the passing game, as its running game to set up the run for later in the game. In the past, teams would use the running game to set up the passing game.

The next time you see a true WCO... it will have a fullback that can block, run, and catch the fuckin' ball!!!

The passing game is used as the old running game was used in the past. It's almost impossible to stop when used correctly and will eat up the clock and keep the other teams offense off the field.
