Detroit should have forfeited the game and given the win to Nashville. I'm sure the Preds would have had no problem continuing.

The Fish is more than OK. He's probably embarassed that they cancelled.

Take into account that people die in this league quite often. When the little girl died...they didn't cancel. An 11 year old girl dying, due to actions from the ice, is a lot more traumatic than heart attack guy actually having a heart attack. Remember when the old guy keeled over into the Leafs bench? Dead on the spot. The other major sports would never have cancelled.
That was one of the dumbest posts I have ever seen anywhere on this board.

People die in this league quite often??? Got Link???? The girl who died did so later on at the hospital. In my lifetime watching hockey I've only heard of those two deaths you mention. In 27 years, that's not too bad. I don't know of, or remember any other players dying so it's not very often that deaths occur. I don't remember when the player died on the Leafs bench, in fact never even heard of that story.

I think it was a great idea the teams decided to cancel. Seeing someone get CPR on the ice, and attended to by the officials no less, would give me good reason to focus on how he's doing rather than the game at hand. They will reschedule for a later time of which you idiot fans who booed can still get into the game as long as you haven't thrown away your ticket stub just yet.

Here's hoping for a speedy and safe recovery for Fischer.

Jesus.

He should call it a career--I know that like any pro athlete he's far too competitive to want to do that, but I think he should accept that his hand may be forced by his body and think about moving on in life.

I can't agree more. His career is just getting started but when you put things in perspective, health and family have to come first always. WingFan would love to see him make a triumphant return but I don't want him to risk his life.

That sucks. Not only for Jiri as a person and his family, but for the entire Red Wing organization. He was going to be the lynchpin on defense for the forseeable future, now we're screwed.

When it comes to defensemen, if it wasn't for bad luck, the Wings would have none at all.

The Wings aren't screwed but at just 25 and still early in career, he was going to be a big part of the Wings' future. We've seen some nice things out of Lebda and we've yet to see the greatness of Kronwall this season because of the knee injury. Plus, you've got other guys in the pipeline like the guy they drafted in the summer, Kindl. Holland will make a move if he has to if Fisch has to hang it up. The Wings blueline becomes very small if he's gone and they had cut Hatcher lose before the season. I like what we've gotten out Lilja but he's not a defenseman that strikes fear opposing forwards. Surprised the Wings didn't get in bidding for Brad Stuart before Boston got him.

Rookies and prospects aren't going to help #19 get ring #4.

(edit....now THAT's myopic  )

Hmm Nashville would be the top team in the west if Detroit hadn't pansied out with the game cancellation. So I guess there is a plus side for the wings. Every time they fall behind...someone can fake an injury. Of course, they could only do this at home. No other team would ever call a game due to a non lethal injury.

The game has been rescheduled for January 23 but they will start the game over with Nashville keeping their 1-0 lead.

You still don't get the fact that their human. You expect them to be robots and not care about one of their brothers nearly dying next to them? It's one thing to get knocked out cold or breaking a leg by crashing into he boards or taking a puck in the face...that's something many players have dealt with and moved on. What Fischer has effected not only his career but the rest of his life. How many injuries could kill you the need time you step on the ice? A major concussion could put you in a hospital but your heart shutting down isn't a day-to-day injury.

Shoalzie old boy, quit showing us your panties.

The "they're human" is a weak argument for a guy that is fine. Maybe he won't play again. Neither will Pat Peake....and he only crashed into the boards.

It really doesn't matter that deaths/injuries/etc have happened before and they chose to "play on".

Props to both teams for rescheduling the game. That shows CLASS. There is no argument to the contrary. Period.
