UM's 12th game is a season opener (9/02) at home versus Vanderbilt.

Good for them. I heard rumors of adding Maine and that would be horrible.

I heard it was going to be Army. I know Bobby Ross has them on the rise, but Vandy is a better choice.

Vito how can you give a team who is only going to return 2 starters on defense more credit than Oklahoma, who has most of its top 5 in the nation defense returning, in a game without superman?

I like it that Notre Dame is the only school who still consitantly plays the service academies. Gives them some much needed national exposure and Notre Dame is one school who people can't complain about going out of there way to get an easy schedule. There really aren't many easy schedules in South Bend and never by design.

UConn and Rutgers are home games, so that is why I give us the nod. Kansas has a good D and I have no idea what our offense is going to be like 4 weeks into the season. The first 3 teams we should beat just running basic plays.

It's gone, Charles Gordon declared for the NFL draft. The LB corp was senior heavy. Their D is pretty much in complete rebuild mode.

That's good for us then. Just hope we find a QB in the spring. Our D should be pretty good next season. We only have to fill a couple of spots on DL and potentially a LB spot if Nicholas declares for the draft, which doens't look likely.

KU also lost Senior Charlton Keith from the DL, who was double-teamed a majority of the time. I did not see much of USF last year and do not know what they are returning.

Kansas

9/2 or 9/9 - I believe these dates are still open. I'm sure Lew Perkins can find a jellyfish or two. W
9/16 @ Toledo. A homer W, since Toledo is breaking in a new QB. They always seem to win 8-9 games a year, tho.
9/23 vs. South Florida. Probably a L
9/30 @ Nebraska. At least they don't lose 73-10 in Lincoln like they used to. L

Since it looks like Nicholas is not going to declare for the NFL draft, we will be bringing back a very good D. We lose a couple of starters off of the DL, but we have depth in that area. Our LB's are the strong point of the D and the secondary is good.

1. tOsu is the 2nd game of the year
2 tOsu's offense is light years better than the Oklahoma offense
3. Tressel always fields a great defense
4. The OU offensive line sucked last year and return no body for next year, I conclude they will suck worse next year.
5. Texas/OU is a rivalry game where anything can happen
6. Texas is returning a hell of a lot of Talent and experience, the only real problem is that none of the experience is at QB. But by the 5th game of the year a lot of their issues should start to be resolved. I'm scared to see what happens in week 2.

Straight from the Ohio State and Oklahoma Athletic sites. Oklahoma's caught fire as well at the end of the season. I didn't bag on the tOSU offense in the least, it is very impressive. The difference in total yards was negligible but OU had a very slight lead over the last 6 games of each of our seasons. That is far and away from light years ahead of us.

I think it is weak and I dont know if we scheduled those 3 cream puffs b/c other schools backed out, but we are gonna pay for it in '07. Our schedule is a mutha fucka. We play UF, Va Tech, Bama and Miami. Wish the AD would have evened the next 2 years out a little better.

Thus, we go undefeated in '06 but get left out b/c of our SOS.

OK lets look at what OU and tOSU have coming back.

OU has a medicore QB, tOSU has a stud QB
OU has the best RB in the nation, tOSU has a great runningback coming back.
OU has some good receivers, tOSU has Ted Ginn Jr, enough said.

OU is returning 2 starters from an Oline that sucked badly. tOSU loses one guy off a pretty salty group.

Defense
OU Dline sucked last year and lost 3 seniors including DD (that is unless he can punch another friend and squeeze another year out of the NCAA) you do bring Byrd back so at best your line will be about the same. tOSU loses 3 on the dline but returns Patterson, there will be a dropoff.

OU had a pretty good linebacking corp but loses Ingram, I expect your linebackers to be pretty salty next year. tOSU loses 3 starters but they played 5 backers pretty regularly there will be a major drop off but they will still be good.

OU secondary sucked, there is no way around it, they were so toasted you could butter them up and serve em for breakfast. I think they will be better next year only cause they can't get much worse. tOSU they had a good secondary but only bring back one guy, I have no idea what to expect.


What it comes down to for me is that Texas is catching tOSU when we will be starting a freshmen QB for only the 2nd game of his career. I will feel a little better about our chances against tOSU if Blalock decides to come back, (According to reports he is leaning towards coming back), If Blalock does come back our Oline won't miss a beat. The Texas defense will be better next year than they were this year when you just consider the talent level, but will need to replace lots of leadership. I can see the Texas defense shutting down the OU offense much easier than seeing them shutting down the tOSU offense.

If I were a betting man my money would be on tOSU to win it all next year.

It's okay BtH the more Vito posts the less I believe he has ever watched a football game that doesn't involve texass. Vito should stick to texass smack and that's about it because it is painfully obvious he doesn't have clue one about college football.

That mediocre football player at QB wasn't held under 200 passing yards but twice in the last nine games as a freshman with no Oline.

Ted Ginn is definatly the best receiver between the two and Malcom Kelley (OU) is pretty much a lock as the second best. Our receiving cortps are pretty damn comparable next year especially since we have everything returning other than two seniors who saw the field slightly more than I did.

I never said the OU defense sucked, they were pretty salty. I never meant to imply that the dline didn't have talent, but if I remember correctly injuries tore the dline up this year. So maybe I should have said the dline sucked because of injuries. I don't think your defense will suck next year. Now I do think your secondary sucked and I think it has sucked ever since baby stoops left for Arizona. Deal with it. Will they be better, like I said, they have no where to go but up.

Just to add a little tOSU perspective...

Offense should be loaded. As long as the playcalling is agressive, we should put massive numbers on the board next season. To correct Vito, we lose 2 guys on the O-line, Rob Sims and Nick Mangold. Those will be tough shoes to fill (both played as freshman in the '02 NC game), but we have plenty of guys with experience. With Troy Smith, Tony Pittman, Chris Wells, and Maurice Wells in the backfield and Ted Ginn, Anthony Gonzalez, and Roy Hall on the outside, this should be Tressel's most talented team, offensively, thus far.

Of course, the downside is that we only return 2 starters on defense, and they are both lineman (Quinn Pitcock & David Patterson). The linebacker position, surprisingly enough, is not the biggest concern area. It will be nothing close to what it was this year, but it will not be a weak unit (guys with experience like Mike D'Andrea, Marcus Freeman, John Kerr, James Laurinaitis, & Chad Hoobler should fill in nicely). The main concern area is the secondary, where we just lost S Nate Salley and CB Tyler Everett to graduation, and CB Ashton Youboty and S Donte Whitner to the NFL. Lots of young talent to fill in there, but not a lot of guys with game experience.

There are some folks worried in Columbus, but like Vito said, Tressel always seems to have a solid defense. And coordinator Jim Heacock is one of the best nobody's heard much about. One thing that springs to mind-- as fucking stellar as OSU's D was this past season, we were 104th in turnover margin in '05. Aside from the Texas game, in which we gave Vince Young his toughest game IMO, we did not capitalize on many opportunities in that department. I expect that to change considerably next year.

I tend to agree with Soonerfan, in that Oklahoma has just as good a shot to knock off Texas as we do. I would say due to our youth in the secondary vs. UT's receivers, the game being in Austin and the game falling on the 2nd week of the CFB calendar, it will be extremely tough to pull it out. But anyways, carry on fellas.
