An anti OU article from Tramel. :meds: I'm sure that took you all of 15 seconds to find. I guess he's missed the part where in the last decade Oklahoma has been to the final four as many times as Texass, has as many national titles in football, has more conference titles in both basketball and football and Oklahoma having 7 national titles in other sports in that period.
2. The Big 12 formed.

“We were not recruiting Texas kids when we were in the Southwest Conference,” Dodds said. “They were going to UCLA and Florida State. We got into a new conference, gave us a new lease on life.”
This gem goes a long way towards backing up Vito's theory on why texass came to the Big 12.

USC also won the National Title in Track and Field in 1972 and swimming in 1974
Sorry 1974 was a national title year for Oklahoma. USC won one on account of OU being on probation and not being allowed to receive votes in the coaches poll.

I guess they like that hand gesture to remind them of a future 2nd seed and another 1st round exit.

This is probably better suited for the bball board but what the hey.

Remind me again who has won the last three meetings in the series? Remind me again who is 11-5 against the other this century? You wouldn't happen to recall who leads the series 45-21 equaling a 69% winning percentage would you? Maybe you can inform the board which program has been to the Final Four seven times and which one has only been there twice? Please do tell us which one of the programs has played for the national title three times and which one has never got past Friday at the Final Four. Please do allow all those with eyes to read know which program has placed 7 people on the all tournament team and which team has never placed a player on the all tournament team.

Texass fan talking shit to Sooner fan about NCAA tourny perfomances is about the most laughable thing I have seen on a message board.

Dodds lists four reasons for the Texas uprising.

2. The Big 12 formed.

“We were not recruiting Texas kids when we were in the Southwest Conference,” Dodds said. “They were going to UCLA and Florida State. We got into a new conference, gave us a new lease on life.”
I guess this puts to rest Texas fans argument who needed whom when the Big 8 took in the castaways.

How?

I never said Texas didn't need out of the SWC, I said that if Texas was in the Pac 10 the Big 8 would no longer exist or would be another WAC since all the other good teams would have gone their seperate ways.

Texas was the big fish every conference wanted to catch. Only the formation of the Big 12 was enticing enough to get Texas to consider joining the Big 8 schools.

You're right we would have brought in different teams other than you and Baylor and still had aTm and Texass Tech.

Wow, lets see pick the SEC and gets buckets of money or the big 8 and be in the same position as the SWC. I think the aggies would have chose the SEC over the big8. Now after all the other conferences had carved up the big 8 they might have chosen tech and tcu to join but without Texas the aggies would not have had any interest in the big 8.

I know you are full of shit here. The SEC has never had any interest in texass they, like us, wanted aTm, and that came straight out of the SEC commisioners mouth in 1992 infront of God and country and was in every sports page in the country. It must make you feel proud that Arkansas garnered more interest than the Tsippers. The Big 12 was negotiating with Tech and and A&m regardless of what texass was doing.

Even you own Athletic Director doesn't agree with you and it is evident from his statements.

and: the Big 8 was never in the same position as the SWC. even at the time, with OU down in football, the 8 had KU in hoops and Nebraska in football....for national spotlight.

the SWC had zip. Texas couldn't even win it's own cherry picking conference....in either. But, somehow, UT is the major lynchpin in conference alignment....and the center of the Universe.

and if the Cotton Bowl was such a major bowl inna day....then why was it at 10 AM CST on New Years Day when nobody but kids are awake.

I'm older than most of the board, but I remember the day when the Cotton was a major bowl and the Fiesta wasn't yet a New Year's Day Bowl. Back then the Cotton came on at 1 PM EST on CBS, IIRC.

ND won the national championship in '77 out of the Cotton.

i don't disagree that the Cotton Bowl was a major bowl, but it was by far the lowest on the pecking order of the others--Sugar (SEC), Rose (Pac-10/Big 10), Orange (Big 8). the old New Years Day lineup. Texas fan acts like the world has always revolved around them and the mighty SWC--featuring Rice, Houston, TCU, Baylor, etc....

the Cotton Bowl should have been pegged to be a BCS bowl, but it's not.

And it isn't because of the old SWC.

suncoact, I am forced to agree with meds, you are the dumbest MF on this board surpassing Jon trix and even socaltrjn. I am convinced you are someones shit troll.

SEC never wanted Texas? Yea, no one wants the flagship school of the 2nd most populated state in the US. No one wants the richest school in the US with the 2nd most living Alumni in the country. No one wanted the one school that could deliver the collective media markets of Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio.

Suncoast, if brains were shit you wouldn't have enough to make an ant squat.

Typical OU fan. Since they no longer have the "no championship in the last 35 years blah, blah, blah" crap all they have to resort to is this.

I referred to ND's '77 national championship, so that should have given you some idea of the time frame I was looking at. The Fiesta Bowl was first played on New Year's Day following the '82 season, IIRC.

Btw, I may be catching up to Wolfie and Luther when it comes to age, but I'm not quite there yet.
King Crimson wrote:the Cotton Bowl should have been pegged to be a BCS bowl, but it's not.
If you look back in time before the BCS, there's a direct line of succession.

Bowl Coalition ==> Bowl Alliance ==> BCS

The Cotton Bowl was a Coalition Bowl. And it was a first-tier Coalition Bowl. Bowl Coalition consisted of six bowls: Cotton, Fiesta, Orange, Sugar, Gator and Hancock (now Sun). The first four were first-tier bowls, the latter two were second-tier bowls. Member teams were #1 and #2 teams from the ACC, Big East, Big 8 and SWC, #1 and #3 teams from SEC, Notre Dame and #2 team from Pac-10. The Coalition kept traditional conference tie-ins (SEC champ to Sugar, SWC champ to Cotton and Big 8 champ to Orange) and also put the #3 SEC team in the Gator. The first-tier bowls picked their second teams in order according to the combined ranking (AP and UPI) of their conference tie-ins. The Fiesta Bowl picked fourth unless the top two teams were unaffiliated with any bowl game, in which case the Fiesta Bowl picked its two teams first. After the first-tier bowls picked, the Gator Bowl picked its second team, and then the remaining two teams left over went to the Hancock Bowl.

The coalition ended after the '94 season due primarily to the impending demise of the SWC, but also due in part to the scare that ND's 6-4-1 season in '94 threw into the rest of the Coalition members.

IIRC, when the Alliance was formed, the Sugar was a lock for one bowl. The Cotton and the Gator also were considered for the remaining bowls, but the Alliance chose the Fiesta and Orange instead, mainly for reasons of climate in early January. The Alliance contained the champs of the ACC, Big East, Big 12 and SEC, along with two at-large teams, and pitted 1 vs. 2, 3 vs. 5 and 4 vs. 6 among those teams, abolishing traditional conference tie-ins. The Alliance folded after the split national championship in '97 (Michigan and Nebraska), although the Coalition had encountered the same problem in '94 (unable to match up Nebraska and Penn State).

The BCS was an offshoot of the alliance, adding the Big 10 champ, Pac-10 champ and the Rose Bowl, establishing a complex ranking system and re-establishing limited conference tie-ins to the extent they did not interfere with the national championship game.
