You guys crack me up. Face it, your party simply can't find a candidate strong enough to beat an bipolar, alcoholic, drug addicted Congressman.

At least the Democrats came within a few electoral votes of taking down the bipolar, alcoholic, drug addict President.

Per CNN

Kennedy entering rehab after crash
Rep. Patrick Kennedy said Friday he is entering a drug rehabilitation program, following the car accident Thursday in which he slammed into a security barrier on Capitol Hill. "I simply do not remember getting out of bed or being pulled over by police... That is not how I want to live my life," he said. Kennedy added: "I know that I need help." Police are also investigating whether Kennedy received preferential teratment after the crash when he was not given a sobriety test.

Kennedy stated (When he stumbled out of the car), that he was on official business.... Being a Congressman, this statement allows him to circumvent many legal problems...

ie.. He will at most get a slap on the wrist for this and much adoration form those who feel sorry for Patches. He has a disease, known as Drug Addiction, Alcoholism and he cannot be held accountable for his actions..

He was also using Ambien and "EVERYBODY KNOWS" that you cannot be held responsible for your actions on AMBIEN! It makes you sleep walk, sleep drive, sleep drink, etc.....

Hey, Limbaugh pretty much set the precedent for the kid gloves treatment for high level drug addicts. So don't bitch now that a Kennedy is going to get the same deal Rush got.

Algore as an alternative.
Arrogant Kerry as an alternative.

while rush and patches are both guilty of being junkies, rush, atleast didn't drive around that way and hasn't been one for his entire adult life, unlike the congressman from the great statelet or Rhode island.

Please also post the link showing where Rush was elected to office. I don't seem to recall him being elected anything other than fat.

And I don't recall him plowing his sled into a wall and then pulling the " Do you know who I am card "

Is "Ambien" a new brand of single malt scotch?

Nice try with the sleep meds bullshit, though.
I don't care what he was on. He's obviously lost control of some facet of his life. Which is pretty much what happened to Oxycotinbaugh. And, because he is rich and well connected, Rush got off with a slap on the wrist. Which is what will happen to Kennedy. So deal with it.

* Kennedy has acknowledged being treated for cocaine use during his teenage years.[2]

* In 2000, Kennedy was accused of pushing a security guard at LAX. City prosecutors ultimately decided not to bring criminal charges against him and he paid an undisclosed civil settlement to the alleged victim almost two years later.[3] His critics have called this incident a "triple hate crime", as the security guard was an elderly black woman.[4]

* In 2000, Atlantic Navigation Company of Mystic, CT, claimed that a boat they rented to Kennedy was found abandoned off Martha's Vineyard and required $28,000 to repair. [5]

* In 2000, the Coast Guard was dispatched to Kennedy's yacht after he and his date became embroiled in an argument on his yacht off Martha's Vineyard.[6]

* In 2003, drew fire from his critics when he jokingly said that "I have never worked a [bleeping] day in my life." [7]

b,

they went after limbaugh way more than they would the average oxycontin fiend. he was never, ever so much as accused of endangering anyone by driving under the influence.

Also, not to defend prescription drug abuse, but, to compare someone getting hooked on legitimate prescription drugs to a life long repeat drunk/illegal drug user is kinda pathetic.

When said drug user is doctor shopping to the point where the State of Florida thinks it is a problem and when said drug user is browbeating his household help into making illegal drug transactions, then I think that does rise to the same level.

Could I get a link to this household help abuse you speak of?

So, lemme see if I have this right.

Fat bastard with back problems and no history of drug abuse is prescribed very addictive painkillers and ends up hooked on them. he is busted, goes into rehab. has had no trouble with it since.

Is the same as.....

Rich trust fund punk starts illicit drug/alcohol abuse as a kid. Has been in and out of rehab since. Has had multiple cases of driving under the influence and being an arsehole in general since.

Well, I guess if you fukks can overlook his old man having similar behavior resulting in a dead woman, it's not much of a stretch to overlook this one.

Rack 88, I had a good laugh...and it's fukkin true.

Look, this whole thing is utterly contemptible. I heard some more about this story yesterday. He's blaming it on drug addiction and depression. I can believe that much.

However, apparently the officers at the scene were prepared to administer a breathalizer...and some higher-ranking cops showed up and scuttled him away.

http://www.opinionjournal.com/best/?id=110008340
Baird [the police union head] wrote that the officers were not permitted to perform basic field sobriety tests and that the watch commander on duty "ordered all of the patrol division units to leave the scene."

Officers then drove Kennedy home, the congressman said in his second statement. "At no time did I ask for any special consideration," he added. "I simply complied with what the officers asked me to do."
So this scumbag apparently can treat his vehicle like a SCUD missile whenever he feels like it, and the cops will just show up and chauffeur his silly ass away from the scene, with nary a penalty? This is absolutely DISGUSTING.

I hope he gets shanked by some great-uncle in the Mayo Clinic.

Patrick isn't resigning, though. He's going to "stay the fight". Fuck this noise...they should turn him and his father into planktonfeed. They have strained our patience far too many times.

There are many important issues affecting Rhode Islanders that I work on in Washington as your U.S. Representative. Here you will find my positions on many of these issues, including legislation that I am working to pass in Congress. I have also included many links to other state and federal agencies to help you with any questions that you may have related to the government, their services, the law or proposed legislation. Please use this website and my district and Washington offices as resources to learn about our government, laws and the services available to you.

Excerpts..

Addictive disorders are a form of mental illness and need to be treated, not criminalized.

Congressman Kennedy launched the Addiction, Treatment and Recovery Caucus in the 108th Congress, along with fellow lawmaker Rep. Jim Ramstad (R-Minn.). In establishing the caucus, Kennedy cited the need to promote awareness of chemical addiction issues and increase support for greater access to treatment. It is estimated that 23 million Americans suffer from substance abuse addiction, and the Brown University Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies has found that more than half of all adults have a family history of alcoholism or problem drinking.

Moreover, the National Institute on Drug Abuse concludes that treatment of addiction is as successful as treatment of other chronic diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension. Congressman Kennedy feels very strongly that addiction is a disease with huge social costs and that as a society and government, we need to do much more than we are currently doing to treat it.

The caucus is the first of its type specifically devoted to chemical addiction issues. Kennedy has also championed a jail diversion program to reduce the criminalization of mental illness and supported funding for drug courts, which would effectively facilitate drug and alcohol treatment, drawing attention to research showing that the upfront costs of such programs yield major savings down the road.

***********

So, IF someone is driving under the influence of DRUGS a/o Alcohol..

They should get treatment.. not be sent to jail!!

and if said person were to kill someone or have someone die while that said person operating a Motor Vehicle is under the influence of Drugs and Alcohol... that person should not face nay legal penalties!!

Especially if that said person was on "Official Business" at 2 O'Oclock in the morning..
Kennedy said he returned to his Capitol Hill home on Wednesday evening after a final series of votes in Congress and took "prescribed" amounts of Phenergan and Ambien, another prescribed drug that he occasionally takes to fall asleep.

"Some time around 2:45 a.m., I drove the few blocks to the Capitol Complex believing I needed to vote," his second statement said. "Apparently, I was disoriented from the medication."

Kennedy appeared to be intoxicated when he crashed his Ford Mustang into a barrier on Capitol Hill early Thursday morning, said Louis P. Cannon, president of the Washington chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Remember when he shoved the woman in the airport because he didn't want his bag Xrayed??

Rep. Patrick Kennedy won't face charges in airport guard encounter
By Tom Verdin, Associated Press, 5/16/2000 15:10
LOS ANGELES (AP) Rep. Patrick Kennedy won't face any charges stemming from his encounter with an airport security guard, the city attorney's spokesman said Tuesday.

The Rhode Island Democrat had been accused of battery by Los Angeles International Airport security guard Della Patton, 58. She said Kennedy shoved and grabbed her on March 26 after she told him his bag was too big to fit through an X-ray scanner.

*****************************************
Questions, I have..

What Doctor is going to precribe Ambien to a known and admitted Drug addict??

(Ambien is for short-term use only--usually 7 to 10 days. Longer-term use must be monitored closely by a doctor.)
**Kennedy spent time at a drug rehabilitation clinic before he went to Providence College. He has been open about mental health issues, including being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.**

Why would you take a sleeping pill and then go driving?

Why was there NO Sobriety test?

-If you or I or a Rodney King were pulled over after this accident, do you think we would get a sobriety test?

What are the Odds that a known Drug Addict with serious mentall illness problems with multiple drug related incidents will be re elected.??

I would say, he will win the next election in a LANDSLIDE!!

That and Bush getting 3,000 more votes than there were registered voters in at least one Columbus Ohio precinct.
Or maybe because of what happened in Miami Co. Ohio where...
"With 100% of the precincts reporting at 9am EST Wednesday, Nov. 3, Bush had 20,807 votes (65.80%) and Kerry had 10,724 (33.92%). Miami reported 31,620 voters. Inexplicably, nearly 19,000 new ballots were added after all precincts reported, boosting Bush’s vote to 33,039 (65.77%) to Kerry’s 17,039 (33.92%)."
