I just finished reading the whole article dedicated to the Dixie Chicks in the latest Time Magazine. It basically paints them as being a modeartely successful group of attention whores. Even as a youngster Maines was an arrogant and outspoken Rebel who like like the other two was a college dropouts with a nowhere bound music career. They got a shot and got lucky on music they didn't write and Maines describes as amateurish..............

Yes they have a perfect right to speak up but they shouldn't be surprised if people don't take them seriously. Thinking that being a musician makes your opinion have any more relavence than anyone else's is laughable, you just have a free stage and somehow I doubt anyone paid a single cent to hear anything more than your music or stare at your tits and ass.

It is rather the fact that such a vapid expression--what was it again?...oh yeah, in London, some between song banter about the Chimp being a disgrace to Texas? And THAT incurred the full hammer-down Rovian attack machine? Think about it. Think how these mediocrities served a higher function--to draw out for full public viewing the malicious and truly fascistic nature of the Cheney/Chimp administration. And this exposure has contributed to the huge backlash of disgust of Cheney/Chimp as reflected in all the polls. The Chimp is currently at Nixon mid-Watergate levels, though you wouldn't think so from the combed and obedient major media. And the Chix deserve some credit. Justice is coming.

Wrong, Y2, forget your personal bile. The Chix were put on the Arayan Nation Report (aka "The Country Matters Music Awards Show") in the first place because the vast majority of folks are deeply concerned that the previously trusted brother in Jesus is in fact a war freak puppet of another bottom bitch war freak--KARL ROVE--who has promptly led the nation (think Goebbels, 1939) into a disasterous Quagmire of heinous aggression. (Ready for the Massacre Trial, asshole?)

Were too.

Most of us started out as idealistic tree-huggers, but once we matured into adults (sometime after 30) and saw the way that the world really works, we became hardcore conservatives. The one's who don't mature into this proper way of thinking become tort lawyers or sell wind-chimes.

The "99% of them weren't even born" reference was to the right-wingers on this board. A slight exaggeration, perhaps, but not by much. You might be the exception.

Lynyrd Skynyrd told Neil Young where to get off, and that sentiment holds true today as well.

Hey, maybe old Neil and the Dixie Chicks can get together and do a benefit concert for injured American war vets?

Naaahhh, it'd never work out, 'cause they'd have to do it in Canada.

And me. The Kent State Massacre took place about a month before I graduated from high school. One of the most disgraceful episodes in this country’s history.

And this is for Whitey Wagon:

Southern man
better keep your head
Don't forget
what your good book said
Southern change
gonna come at last
Now your crosses
are burning fast
Southern man

I saw cotton
and I saw black
Tall white mansions
and little shacks.
Southern man
when will you
pay them back?
I heard screamin'
and bullwhips cracking
How long? How long?

Southern man
better keep your head
Don't forget
what your good book said
Southern change
gonna come at last
Now your crosses
are burning fast
Southern man

Lily Belle,
your hair is golden brown
I've seen your black man
comin' round
Swear by God
I'm gonna cut him down!
I heard screamin'
and bullwhips cracking
How long? How long?

Rack that....and let me pose this question ...

Lynyrd Skynyrd is not know for being exactly tolerant. They fly dixie at all their shows, and I have been to 13 Skynyrd shows and have never seen a black person on stage. They did write a song about a black man , Curtis Lowe.

Then KFC is paying royalty's to use Sweet Home Alabama as a bumper on their ads. Nobody has melted down on that yet,and the Confederate flag is noted as being racist in nature. Since I assume that at leas 40% of KFC's market is black, is this not strange ??

Neil Young wrote Southern Man about the South's very slow assimilation into the tolerant United States. He didn't say everyone from the south is a hayseed, but the functionally illiterate in Skynrd took offense to it. Not surprised.

What holds true today is that the man who wrote those words is as dead as a doornail. And so are the demographics of the time when he wrote it. Not sure if you get cable in Casa del Whitey, but there's been this steady migration of northerners to the deep south. Primarily because of this newfangled invention called air conditioning.
Hey, maybe old Neil and the Dixie Chicks can get together and do a benefit concert for injured American war vets? Naaahhh, it'd never work out, 'cause they'd have to do it in Canada.
Neil Young has raised tens of millions of dollars for charities in this country. You can start by looking up the Bridge School and go from there. If he and the Dixie Chicks did an anti-war/pro troops concert, they would sell that thing out anywhere but the Bible Belt. And you people can go fuck yourselves for being a bunch of backwards ass hillbilly fucksticks.

But I'd rather see Neil hook up with Jewel again.

But, have to agree -- I believe the scoreboard reads something like --

Neil Young -- 1 (albeit canadian) life

Ronnie Van Zant -- 126 daisies

The BODE is looking like it's pretty lopsided in Neil's favor. And to add insult to injury, rumor has it Mr. Young was seen chasing the moonlight right over the top of Van Zant's grave...with a negro woman. The man has a heart of gold-btw-imo.

On this board. But this board doesn't exactly represent reality. The difference between Bush's approval rating in real life (about 30%) and on this board (I'd put it at about 75%, and trust me, that's an extremely conservative estimate) should have been your first clue.

Couple of points on that:

1. Could be wrong about this, but I seem to recall seeing a Skynyrd concert on TV where one of the backup singers was a black female.

2. During Skynyrd's heyday, the Stars and Bars didn't quite have the racial overtones it does today, IIRC.

Btw, Mr. Saturday Night Special is a pretty abrupt departure from the ideology we're talking about with Sweet Home Alabama. Mr. Saturday Night Special was, quite clearly, an anti-handgun song, although it also seemed to conclude that gun control would be futile as well:

Handguns are made for killin',
They ain't no good for nothin' else.
And if you like to drink your whiskey
You might even shoot yourself.
So why don't we dump all people
To the bottom of the sea
Before some old fool comes around here,
And wants to shoot either you or me?

Skynyrd were full of contradictions. Listen to "The Needle And The Spoon", or "Simple Man" as further evidence.

Regardless of their ideology though, they were simply the greatest Southern Rock and Roll band ever. Save your takes on The Allman Bros and Marshall Tucker, clones. I'm not hearing it.

As for Neil Young, one of the first albums (remember those Lp's?) I ever bought was Heart of Gold. It's been downhill for old Neil ever since, at least as far as spending my cash on any of the tripe he's recorded since.

But whatever, dudes. I still listen to his riffs on the classic rock radio stations. He is one hell of a musician.

Keep on Rocking in the Free World.

Derron,

Love them or hate them, they've now had 3 number 1 albums. The most recent of those AFTER being ditched by an entire genre's worth of radio stations. I'd say their longevity is not up for question.
