The fact is, just because everyone on TV wants to tell me how god-like Notre Dame is, doesn't mean I have to believe it. I've actually got facts to look at here. I can choose to ignore these facts, or I can buy into the hype they're trying to spoon feed me. And the facts are, the best team ND beat last year finished 7-5.

I don't care how many great and talented players and coaches they have.

I just need to know who they've beaten. This isn't complicated stuff, folks. Look at who they've beaten. That's how this "predicting" stuff works. Shove Xs and Os to the side...it's all about wins and losses. If a team's best win is against a 7-5 team the prior year, that just isn't going to fill me up with the necessary confidence to pick them in a blowout win, on a night road game, against a talented ACC team...especially as the first game of the year. ESPECIALLY as the first game of the year.

Now, this logic won't hold true every time, but you have to side with the percentages.

Well the trends under Weis is that when they go on the road at night, their offense rolls up a shit ton of yards.

The offense last night went against trends.

If Weis doesn't man up and do something about his waistline he's in danger of going Augustus Gloop.

It's painful and embarrassing to watch Domer Doubtfire.

I'm looking at the teams ND played last year at night, and on the road. I probably would've taken ND and the points in each of em.

Trust me, every ND fan is worried about that.

Killian wrote:Ken, I was wrong. You and everyone else who pointed out why ND is overrated was right. Weis is not god and I am a complete moron, who needs to read more.
What you shouldve wrote.

Good job man-ing up, sackless wonder.

Great call T. Because I've always been one to not "sack up" and I'm also a member of the "Weis is God" fraction of the fan base.

The fact remains that the game was close for different reasons than all of the experts in this thread stated it would be.

Killian wrote:Ken, why don't you go back and look at allthe so called "football" related reasons as to why people thought GaTech would keep it close.
Again... Eff off, killian. Rather than me doing that, why don't YOU go back and look at all the so called "I hate ND reasons" as to why people thought GaTech would keep it close. You know.. seeing as how YOU figured that was the reason for so many picking GaTech and all. Frankly, I could care less as to whether or not all the football related reasons were or were not incorrect. Completely beside the point. You're not 'getting this' are you?

The onus is on YOU, not me, idiot.

The fact remains that you started this dumbass thread because you are an ass who thought ND was worthy of their ranking but was proven wrong when GT covered.

You called everyone out and you were proven wrong.

Sack up or shut up.

Huh? For years, ESPN has been the leader of the "ND is no longer relevant"/"ND needs to join a conference" drumbeat. We all know that ESPN doesn't consider anything in the world of sports that happened prior to ESPN's existence particularly relevant, and that fact alone would dictate that ESPN isn't real high on ND, as a general rule.

Then again, ESPN is nothing if not a bandwagon jumper, and with ND figuring to be something of a trendy pick this year, they could very easily wind up on that bandwagon.

Wake the hell up, TiC. You aren't THAT naive are you?
The very minute ND ranks, ESPN is/will be ALL OVER them. Have you watched ESPN at all this Sunday/today? 'Ultimate highlight' perhaps?

In '02, ND stayed undefeated relatively late into the season, and ESPN wasn't blowing them then. If you think I'm bad, go to one of the ND boards and post that ESPN homers for ND. See what kind of reaction you'll get to that.

And btw, as a general rule, I stay away from ESPN, although tuning in is occasionally a necessary evil. Their sports coverage usually nauseates me.

I know you're a level-headed domer, TiC. I just didn't think you were that naive.

Killian's also pretty level-headed, but the crap he pulled earlier in the thread, and you supported, is bleeping inexcuseable (which he hasn't sacked up for yet). ND fans have a much shorter leash.

If I could type slower to make you understand this T, I would.

X team is ranked second in the polls and returns 10 (essentially) starters from an offense that ranked 10th in the nation last year. While their defense may be suspect, they return most of their starters on that side of the ball as well.

X team is playing an unranked team that is returning an all-american WR and a horribly erratic Sr QB. So erratic that the head coach opened up the QB job in the spring. But X team's defense was bad against the pass, so maybe the other team does have a chance.

But team X is returning their own all-american WR and the top QB (or close) in college football. The other team has 3 new starters in their secondary including a converted WR starting at CB.

If you put any team name in for team X besides ND, given those facts above and everyone and their brother would jump on any number 13.

Because it was ND and everyone had the Fiesta Bowl in their mind, people (media especially) were talking about how vulnerable ND was and how GaTech had a choince to exploit their weakness. Did they? Sure. But what those same people were saying about ND in the Fiesta, they weren't saying it about GaTech and their bowl.

People were, and continue to hold the Fiesta Bowl against ND while not doing the same for any other team.

So go on with your "sack up" posts while continuing to try and fight through that little box in your head.

You called me and others out on our own picks(What we thought would get us points, not what our opinion was). We are playing a game that we are all trying to win, not show up a school. Get over yourself and your school.

So spin it however you wish.

GT covered.

I figured you as a better poster than this but keep on spinning little man.

BTW,
Mr T - 8 picks correct
Killian - 7 picks correct

I wonder which game gave me the one up on you.
