them is some pretty ezblasters there Van. I'm just jaded a bit. I was raised in a god fearin, red blooded, Gibson and Fender family. Until that Custom 22 soapbar, the only exceptions to the rule were some ric 12 strings,and a gretsch 6120.

I'm sure all those japs and carvins are peachy, just a lil hard to get used to for me. not to mention the looks of those things. eeghads. last time I was in L.A. I went to the Carvin place on Sunset. I almost bought a sweet strat style yob with a bridge humbucker. It was koa or bubinga or some goonygoohoo shit. The holdsorths were extremely flexible and I only played the dumbed down version. There is no way Id' be seen in public with one though too small. they look faggy on a big tall dorky dood like me. nice guys there at the lil carvin store, compared to the other hollywood fuks on that strip.

PRS, eh? Those at least work for you?

Best guitar I've ever played. Deeply routed/flush mounted "M Bridge", less instrusive neck heel than the clunkier PRS neck heel, better neck profile, custom fretboard profile (straight 14" radius), stainless steel frets, push/pull coil taps and it's just resonant as hell. Also, PRS would call a top like that a "10 Top" or even a "Private Stock" guitar and then it'd at least be in the $3500-$5000 range.

Since those pics were taken I swapped out the p/up bezels for gold ones and I swapped out the gold dome knobs for transparent gold "Speed Knobs", the barrel shaped potentiometers used on many Gibsons.

I also dropped DiMarzio Breeds in there.

Love Fenders and Gibsons too. Been through quite a few Strats, Les Paul Standards and the aforementioned ES335s. I still have a couple of Strats. One has Custom Shop Fat 50s and the other has the Custom Shop's "Hot Vintage Noiseless Strat" p/ups, Jeff Beck's p/ups. Problem with Strats and LPs though, unless I go through Fender's Custom Shop and wait a year to pay $3500 for what's still nothing more than a simple Strat I just can't get the specs I want on any regular production Strat. With the Les Pauls I just can't get past that single cut away and the total lack of upper fret access.

Neither could a lot of other people, obviously, and that's how PRS became so popular with their all mahogany body/neck plus a maple top/set neck double cutaway design. A classic PRS is really just a double cutaway Les Paul with more uniform build quality, more highly figured woods and more overall Bling Factor...

I've been through most everything out there, from rack mount preamps to Marshalls, JSXs, Legacy's, MTS's, V3s, Genz Benz, Mesa Rectos and all manner of Fenders. I've played just about everything else, from Bogner to Soldano to VHT to roland JC120s to whatever...

In the end though I landed back on the basics: '65 Twin Reverb and '65 Deluxe Reverb, with a pedalboard. Don't need anything more and to me an amp, any amp, must first start off with the purest clean tone. That's gotta be the foundation and then it's easy to build up from there...
