Whether the local "African American" communities choose to invite white people to participate in "their" celebrations or not(they do), only an idiot would dispute that it creates an atmosphere of separation, or an "us vs. them" mentality.

And futhermore, every "celebration" by the "African Americans" is essentially delivering the same message, one which our society attempts to ingrain in children's head -- that white children are born into a state of owing for some sins of the father(which I realize is a centuries-old tribal-African tradition).

I have a big problem with kwanzaa. And not for the reasons you probably think. I believe black Americans couldn't be shooting themselves in the foot any worse. Having a "black" holiday(or two) creates an atmospere of saparatism. Everything about it speaks to "we're different from them." "African American" "leaders" constantly harp on about equality, and integration, and a host of other bullshit, then out of the other side of their mouth spew on about kwanzaa anb other separatist bullshit.

You can't have it both ways. Not today, not tomorrow, and not 100 years from now.

THAT'S my problem. You can't have your cake and eat it too. We can't all exist as one people, when a large segment of those people only believe in the concept when it's convenient or profitable. That will NEVER help, and the only result of it will be to drive a wedge further between the two.

Did blacks get a raw deal in this country's early history? Obviously, only a braindead fucktard would deny it. But in the days of African-based slavery around the globe, one of history's constants showed its face as always -- the strong take advantage of the weak. Always been that way, and always will be. There's plenty of other peoples who had some pretty nasty experiences at the hands of a more technologically advanced or better organized oppressors...just ask European Jews. They've moved on-btw.

You weren't a slave. Your parents weren't slaves. Your grandparents weren't slaves. You've never in your entire life even met anyone who was a slave.

How many generations is it going to take before we can move on? Two more? Five? And save the "when the white people do this and that..." You can't control the actions of others any better than I can. As a born and (in)bred Southerner, my opinion is that the Confederate flag is definitely a symbol of racism and all that was wrong with the Old South. Its just wrong on many levels. First of all, it was used by the Confederacy in its struggle against the United States. Second, right or wrong, it has been taken over as a symbol of racism by virulent repugnant racists to the point that it is very offensive to many, both white and black.

My relatives fought and died for the Confederacy...but I am repelled by what they fought for. I don't fault the courage of their convictions or their sacrifices but I disassociate myself from the vile causes they fought for..
