Wait...maybe it should be The Ocean.

Didn't anyone ever put a drop of oil on Bonzo's bass drum pedal???

Where Is My Mind?, Everlong, Would and Gimme Shelter were four of a couple of dozen songs that immediately popped into my head. Good call, folks.

As for Metallica songs, the opening to One is badass. Rusty Cage is a nice call but I prefer the opening to Jesus Christ Pose from the same album.

I'll add London Calling by The Clash to the list as well as Teenage Riot by Sonic Youth.

Hell, I could list a hundred tunes.

Knocking On Your Back Door - Deep Purple

Also best opening lyrics:

"Sweet lucy was a dancer
But none of us would chance her
Because she was a samurai"

I love this song.

Not so fast...

If you're going to post Knocking lyrics, post them all...since they were such a wonderful excercise in crudeness.

Sweet Lucy was a dancer
But none of us would chance her
Because she was a samurai
She made electric shadows
Beyond our fingertips
And none of us could reach that high
She came on like a teaser
I had to touch and please her
Enjoy a little paradise
The log was in my pocket
When Lucy met the rockett
She never knew the reason why

I can't deny it with that smile on her face
Oh it's not the kill, it's the thrill of the chase

Feel it coming, it's knocking at the door
You know it's no good running, it's not against the law
The point of no return an' now you know the score
An' now you're learning aha what's knockin' at your back door

Sweet Nancy was so fancy
To get into her pantry
We had to be the aristocracy
The members that she toyed with
At her city club
Were something in diplomacy
So we put her on the hit list
Of a common cunning linguist
A master of many tongues
And now she eases gently
From her Austin to her Bentley
Suddenly she feels so young

I can't deny it with that smile on her face
Oh it's not the kill, it's the thrill of the chase

Feel it coming, it's knocking at the door
You know it's no good running no it's not against the law
The point of no return, now you know the score
An' now you're learning aha what's knockin' at your back door

Sweet Lucy was a dancer
But none of us would chance her
Because she was a samurai
She made electric shadows
Beyond our fingertips
And one of us could reach that high

I can't deny it with that smile on my face
Oh it's not the kill, it's the thrill of the chase

Feel it coming, knocking at the door
You know it's no good running
Now it's knockin' at your door
Aaha knockin' at your back door

That album(yeah, those vinyl thingies) was a favorite of mine in high school.

Although "The Theme to The Last Waltz" doesn't have words, the very first part where the organ comes in an ascending crescendo before Robbie starts playing always gave me chills, especially when I watch it with the movie's opening credits.

"When I'm 64."

"Do It Again."

"Don't Take Me Alive."

I'm fairly certain that if I was stuck making a cross-country car trip with Truman, the tape/CD deck would have been torn from the dash and tossed out the window before we even crossed the first state line.

Jeebus...is that a K-Tel collection or something? Did you get a free Ginsu when you ordered it?

Actually, someone should make a mixed tape consisting of just the opening riffs of a bunch of songs.

Then it'd sound like that asshole found in most dorms who only knew how to play the beginning of umpteen songs ("Wish You Were Here" was a big fave of that dude...).

...which means that I'd actually have to listen to you talk for 3,000 miles? Ejecting with the 8-track has its appeal....

You mean to say this thread wasn't titled, "Old Songs Sure to Draw a Scornful Reply from Dins"?

But thanks for the Ginsu reminder. It'll surely come in handy when I carve your heart out for fucking with the Alternative/Grunge collection I currently have cued in my car's CD player....

Oh, dear.

It would appear a great thread just got even better.

I just learned that Boston, The Dire Straights, the Stones, and none other than George Thoroughgood are... grunge/alternative.

Duuuuude....there's this TOTALLY cool PUNK band you should check out...they're WAY epic, duuuuude.

ABBA, I think they're called.

Wow man...what do you put on when you get REALLY crazy....bust out a little Men At Work?

Fucking WILDMAN!

Here I had my hopes up for one of Dins's patented clever and caustic replies, and the effer goes and forgets to post anything remotely amusing. Tough night in the U/L, apparently. I guess even Ichiro wears a doughnut once-in-a-while.

Fuggit. What are you drinkin' tonight, Dinsdale? I'd rather argue about beer.

Good call.

I thought about that, but that whole freaking album just seems to run together, as if it were one song for me. I put that disc on, and it's like a 43-minute song.

Sort of like on a mini-scale, Joe Satriani, "Midnight" leading into "Echo." They're listed as two separate songs, but might as well be the same with a decent intro.

Funk #49 - Joe Walsh
Takin' Care of Business and Let it Ride - B.T.O.
Barracuda - Heart
Vehicle - Ides of March
