Yeah, that pesky old wins/losses stat sure is a weak way to measure teams.
I'm sure there must be some nice things about Michigan (early Bob Seger, Nugent, The Stooges, MC5, Motown, the '68 Tigers, the Duffy Daugherty years at MSU), but I'm not a fan of the state, its' sports teams, its' colleges, it's women...shudder...saw some nasty biguns, or anything else up there.
Just out of curiosity, have you seen any bit of Michigan beyond the Southeast and/or metro Detroit? Ever been to the west coast? Petoskey? Grand Haven? Mackinac? The UP? Taquanamon Falls? Traverse City? I love how people fly into Detroit or Flint, see how cruddy it is, and then proclaim their "trip to Michigan" was a bad experience. Oh, ok.

I'm on to you.

The SEC has Tenn, UF(twice), LSU, and Alabama winning NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS in the last 16 years(with Auburn getting absolutely robbed a couple years ago). That's 1/3 of the SEC winning titles in a SHORT amount of time. That's balance.

Other conferences? I'd like to see anyone come even close to that!

It's like arguing with 4 year olds sometimes with you SEC folk. Talk about short fucking attention spans. We could be debating the finer points of various European wines, and you fucks would still find a way to end it at "THE SEC HAS ALL TIME BODE!!!! NOBODY IS BETTER!!! YOUR TEAMS BLOW ASS!!!!"

For the hundredth time, nobody is saying the SEC isn't (usually) at the top, just that the difference between them and #2 and even #3 is NOT by a wide gap.

In my opinion, you really only start to lose respect and credibility when you start saying things like "everybody in the Big Ten is dogshit other than Michigan and OSU." I mean, come on. That's the kind of ammo I broke out when I was a punk 13 year old, and didn't no shit about shit. You're better than that...aren't you?

I'm looking your way Sam...

Feel free to think for yourself any time now, pops. Just because a team like Wisky, or PSU, or even MSU/Purdue in some years aren't ranked, or aren't getting their cacks sucked off by ESPN, doesn't mean they can't ball.

Then STFU already.......wait a sec....you are arguing that the gap between the SEC and the #2 and #3 conference is not as big as SECfan would have you believe?????

Uhhhh.......go get 'em boy......wow.....that's a fantastic arguement......put a lot of effort into that one.....

Here....I'll help.....I agree....the SEC is the BEST and the others aren't far behind.

There you go......all done for ya....now move on!

The 12 has five of the last thirteen national champs. Neb in 94, 95, and 97. OU in 2000. Texas in 2005. We could have had one in 93 as-well if we could've bought a freaking call against FSU. Granted that is three teams versus four for the SEC but still definitely comparable.

Danimal beat me to it...

Big 12 does have some run there...

plus if we back up 2 more years you throw Colorado in there as well...so Big 12 is pretty even with the SEC there...

Wow...big ten fan pimping the big 12....interesting.....

HOWEVER, I don't the SEC has ever gone through a run where the conference was overrated like the Big 12 was a few years back.......it was pretty bad and any Big 12 fan will agree.......

Posted: Wed Sep 12, 2007 12:50 pm
by buckeye_in_sc
no I was not pimping...

I was merely responding to your inane post that made it seem like the SEC was so head and shoulders above everyone with all their NC's...was merely going to point out that the Big 12 is right there with the SEC...that was all...

but since you failed to even consider that point well...whatever

Posted: Wed Sep 12, 2007 12:57 pm
by T REX
Yes...yes...whatever......

Inane?

The SEC IS better. Do you dispute this?????

If you read the previous posts I even stipulated that the drop-off for the number two and three conferences isn't that much.

But the SEC is still the best.....undisputed......if you feel otherwise please bring your arguement forward and be heard.

Otherwise.....whatever.....

Posted: Wed Sep 12, 2007 1:14 pm
by buckeye_in_sc
no...you made the claim the SEC had X number of NC's over Y time period...

I was merely going to point out that the Big 12 ran close to the same numbers...that was all...

I have maintained the same stance forever...SEC has great depth...but the gaps between 1,2,3 is not as wide as SEC Homers would have you believe...that has been my stance and will continue to be my stance...especially when the Big 10 was 2-1 v SEC last year in bowls...if the SEC was so superior they would have swept the Big 10 right?

I think most top teams in every conference can play with anyone...let's not use one game as a barometer either...

but if you threw

tOSU
Michigan
Sconsin
PSU

into the mix with
UF
LSU
UT
Auburn

with
OU
Texas
A&M

with
USC
Cal
UCLA

etc etc...I think you would find very even matchups in most cases and probably some very exciting and great games...HELL I WANT my NCAA FOOTBALL playoff...last year would have been awesome...

I mean could you imagine
tOSU v Wake
UF v ND
Michigan v BSU
OU v Louisville
USC v LSU

or some shit like that...awesome purely awesome...and what if Wake knocked off tOSU and went on a run...it gets settled on the field vs in some newspaper, etc...GIVE ME MY PLAYOFF already damn it...

Sudden Sam wrote:yes, most every year of my existence the Big Ten has two to three good teams...and the rest are generally dogshit.
This is why you lose credibility amongst Big Ten fans, imo. No, in fact, most every year the Big Ten has four very good teams: Ohio St, Michigan, Penn St, and Wisconsin. It's almost like your measure of "dogshit" is a team which loses more than one game.

I think the Big Ten can be broken down into the next three phases:

Iowa
Michigan St
Purdue

These teams are generally at least average, and often above average, and often make apperances in bowl games. Are they national contenders every year? No. Are they at a level above "dogshit?" Of course they are. Don't be a fool. Teams like South Carolina and Arkansas have similar programs, and are rarely in the national spotlight, but I certainly don't consider them dogshit.

Minnesota

Can build some scary offenses, but without a defense, they remain average at best, and often below average.

Illinois
Indiana
Northwestern

Here are your dogshit teams. Pretty simple stuff, Sam.

Illinois and IU probably have more upside than Minnesota, but I'd say this is an accurate breakdown of the conference from a recent era standpoint.

You, your conference full of mental rejects, and your scheduling are so far behind the times, it's laughable.

That means only TWO schools were worth a shit before JoePa signed on and Alvarez resurrected UW.

So, By SECSam's logic, who should we crown the reigning champion?

Yale?

Army?

Washington?

I mean, if SECTard's vision of today's world is subject to a bunch of qualifiers, where are we drawing the line?

But how typicial was Sam's stupidity statement? Throw Such-and-Such data out there if you think it bolsters your point, regardless how badly it reaches. Ignore any and all logic that is contrary to the Inbred Conference being the Purveyors of All Thing Great.

Sidenote, BTW -- I know an awful lot of people that have worked/travelled/lived all over the country, and they all seem to agree on one thing(a miracle, really) -- just about tyo a man, they all say your region has the absolute worst weather in the country. Just so's you know.

Huh? When did this turn into a debate about the past, and how these programs got here? The point is they're here.

You were talking about how you view the Big Ten, presently.

No one outside of the midwest could possibly suggest that playing a schedule including Purdue or Indiana or Illinois or Northwestern or Michigan State or Minnesota or Iowa is challenging.

Dins,

Please tell all these fuckin' yankees who retire down here to get back to their lovely weather elsewhere. We are so damn sick of them telling us how we should be doing things. We're quite happy without their input.

I've always been the first to admit it if I'm wrong. If Big Ten teams beat SEC teams in bowls (as PSU and Wisconsin did last year and has happened many times before), hey...congratulations. That's going to happen. I'm saying that, as an overall conference, there are more strong teams in the SEC, year in and year out, than in any other conference. Anyone knows that. Top to bottom, more strong teams. The best team in the country doesn't come outta the SEC every year. I'd never suggest that. But overall conference strength...yes, I'd say usually that's the SEC. Is this difficult for y'all to grasp?
At the very least Michigan State and Minnesota have had some pretty damn nice stretches in their history.

Obvious FTFY.

SEC Dorks -- please, please, please do the world a favor, and maybe actually use your brain a little before you try and make your arguments. TIA

Dins,

Please tell all these fuckin' yankees who retire down here to get back to their lovely weather elsewhere. We are so damn sick of them telling us how we should be doing things.

I have empathy. So much empathy, in fact, that it goes full circle and tells you to fuck off. My neck of the woods has had more population increase than anywhere in the country over the last two decades, and if I hear one more californian whine about moving here voluntarily, I might just have to give Alabama a try.

The point is, Sam, that while Purdue, Indiana, Illinois, Northwestern, Michigan State, Minnesota and Iowa are not always good teams, in any given year 2 or 3 or 4 of them are quite good. That’s why your “Big 10 only has 2 good teams every year” stance is horseshit.

Geez fucking louise.....

The SEC had FOUR TEAMS with 10+ wins last year with the NATIONAL CHAMPS and two more with nine wins!!!!!!!!!! No other conference comes close to that....not a one......

Fuck!

SEC=BEST Conference

What are any of your points???!!!

Playing Indiana and Purdue and Illinois is no different than playing those 1-AA teams

You said:

Nope, nothing about App St in that line. Clearly, App St is the cream of the crop in that division, and they don't accurately represent the average 1-AA team.

Wrong about what?

The SEC is the best freaking conference until further notice. Period.

However you slice and dice it......this is stupid already.

I'll gladly say that the Big 12 is right with the SEC in titles but overall top to bottom?????

I wasn't making the overall-conference argument, on-average I'd agree the SEC is the best con. But you said nobody could touch the SEC's MNC-total/balance and that was obviously refuted. So Buckeye and I do have scoreboard on that.

Hey, my skers aren't a national power anymore so I gotta take whatever board-victories I can get.
