Fucking common sense you douche.
Here's another dose of common sense...
If a bunch of people end up dead because of negligent safety conditions in the workplace, that company will be subject to debilitating civil settlements, and will either impliment safety procedures or go bankrupt.
Common sense, douche.
But go ahead and continue on your blind quest to be Big Brother's lackey... the more government the better, right?

You're kidding, right?
I was in the Navy before, during and after the
Iowa disaster. They were doing pretty serious drug testing all along (I lost my LPO, who was in line to make CPO, to a positive marijuana test in '87), at least for the time I was in. I'll grant you that they ramped it up even higher after the
Iowa incident, but to say that it wasn't going on prior to that is just plain misinformation.
During Vietnam, they pretty much turned a blind eye to it, but there was a post-Vietnam CNO who decided to make it a priority. I can't remember exactly who that was right now.

I always understood the tipping point for drug testing in the military to be the crash in the Nimitz. This little blurb from Wiki should jog the memory.
In the following year, one of Nimitz's EA-6B Prowlers crash-landed on her flight deck, killing 14 crewmen and injuring 45 others. The crash happened when the USMC airplane came in high and right, missing the last arresting cable by several feet, while ignoring a wave-off command. Forensic testing indicated several of the deceased enlisted crewman tested positive for marijuana while the officers onboard the crashed plane were never tested, putting the blame for the accident on the deck crew instead of the pilot. The official determination was that the accident was the result of drug abuse by the enlisted crewmen of the Nimitz, this conclusion coming despite the fact that every death occurred in the impact of the crash and not one crew member was killed fighting the fire. Due to this incident, then President Ronald Reagan instituted the "Zero Tolerance" policy across all of the armed services - which started the mandatory drug testing of all US service men and women.

Good gawd, you fukking officers are dense.
I don't know what mike is refering to, but, it ain't the Iowa. That turret that got blowed to shit was was a teeny bit larger than a 5 incher. (triple 16"s) And it wasn't drug related. It was apparently caused by some dumb fukk who decided to make himself and about 50 of his shipmates dead.
I was under the impression that the big push on drug screening was a result of a nasty carrier accident where the investigation revealed that more than a few involved might have been stoned.
I think at the time it was a good thing. The military did need cleaning up. Trouble is, they take it wayyyyyyy to far.
The current policy follows the same dumbfukkkk guidlines that we use in fighting terrorism. It is 100% random. A 26 year Navy Captain on shore duty is subject to the exact same testing as a 19 year old flight deck ape. Doesn't matter that the captain has a 26 year record of passing tests. Doesn't matter that nobody cares if he's getting stoned, since he's not putting anyone in danger. Doesn't matter that the 19 year old IS in a position where being stoned could get him dead. Doesn't matter that he is far more likely than the captain to actually get stoned.
Nope, none of this matters. We have to be fairrrrr, you see. Can't show any favoritism.
So, we spend countless millions every year doing this shit for nothing. It makes about as much sense as having 79 year old mildred take off her sneakers before boarding her flight to miami.
There should be drug testing for city bus drivers or airline pilots. We should not be drug testing an E-5 cook on shore duty.

I don't buy for a second that the pilots weren't tested, unless ofcourse it was because they were burn't to a crisp in the fireball and there wasn't anything left to test. Or they rode their planes off over the side and ended up at the bottom of the ocean.
Don't worry, annie, I can assure you that officers are tested just like us pee on enlisted.

It's a Wiki article. I'm not vouching for any of the details of the post accident investigation. I only cited it to illustrate the incident itself.

5. I need to be a complete and utter Narc, when it comes to the folks under me. I need to be sure and REPORT any suspicious activity. ..
Start off by reporting the would-be comedian/born again asshat. He's very clearly a closet-stoner. (not to mention a cock-sucking faggot)
The former, I doubt. The latter, definitely.
I don't know what it is about these fucking preachy "men" in the south, attempting their "tough love" style of communication mixed in with really, really bad humor, but they all give me the fucking willies.
Cuda wrote:For instance, one of your employees might have been solicited by him on where to score some of that hi-powered ditchweed. Obviously that employee would be afraid to go on record making such an accusation, so it's only natural that he'd want to report it anonymously. And if that happened, you're totally obligated to pass that report along. Right?
Not off the mark, in a way. The fucking faggot/asshat/preacher who made this presentation didn't work for my company. He works for "Community Care," a god-damned counseling agency, for not just drugs, but all sorts of "Life Challenges" bullshit, including divorce and terminal illnesses, etc. I love the euphamisms of these agencies, btw. They have it down like stink on shit. Still doesn't pass the bullshit test at my company however, nor will it ever. ('sup those in here who know what I do?)
In between "educating" eveyone on the "dangers" of drugs and alcohol (all the while glossing over prescription drugs, naturally), he kept pimping his "agency" -- a for-profit company, naturally -- as a place where employees could go anonymously ... if YOU (as in all of us supervisors who had to attend this horseshit), think someone has a "problem."
Oh, and I have no doubt that dude was a complete fuckup before he was "born again," and became a "psychologist." No doubt he couldn't handle alcohol, nor drugs, much like folks who are mentally fucked up go into psychology. The scary part is he also serves on the Broken Arrow (a suburb of Tulsa) school board. He told us that, as part of his "presentation." Why, I have no idea.
Rack the company for getting a cheaper rate on its insurance, I guess.

Naive bullshit.
Newsflash:
W.R. Grace, Union Carbide, Phillips Petroleum, Reichhold Chemical, Peabody Coal, and a thousand other companies that don't give a flying fukk about the safety of employees OR the public are STILL IN BUSINESS and doing quite well, thank you very much.
What are you going to do? Sue them? Make them pay a FINE?

My company started random drug testing on Monday.
Two of my office co-workers had to drive across town and piss in a cup.
It's nice to know I work for a family-owned company that has more trust in insurance companies than their employees.
:hugethumbs up, America.
Somebody at another site suggested that I do what they did when they were age 16: Have a piss sample in a test tube taped to your leg.
Given that alcoholics have a huge advantage over druggies, in that the employees apparently have "all day" to go get tested, once the Order From Human Resources comes down, I figure having a test tube and tape in my backpack should suffice.
You wanna play games? Fine. We play games.

Urination analyst?
Unfortunately, I know way more about that yob than I want to. you see, in the military, they don't hand you the cup and tell you to go in the head and fill it. They have an official gazer observer who's job it is to watch you pull out your crank and fill 'er up.
[wolfman] good times!!! [/wolfman]
During my active duty days while doing my 6 month stretch with the rentacops master at arms division, I had days where I would get to watch hundreds of cahks. The best part of the yob is the all too frequent cases of stage fright or better yet, the "can I sit down and do it" dudes. No, faggit, you can't sit and yes I do have to watch.
Fukk, that job sucks.
Today, I think they do it even more often with us week end warrior types. I asked the operation golden flow coordinator at the reserve center and he told me that every drill weekend 20 fukking percent of the reservists are tested, along with a few unit wide sweeps a year.
Somebody 'splain to me how this is not a felonious waste of tax dollars.

Again, it's not a "drug test" per se...
It's an intelligence test.
Most of the freaking NBA manages to pass them every year, for crissakes.
And they give you all day... to drive past a head shop and get a kit?
If you can't outsmart these people, you don't deserve to be employed.
