Guess again, dipshit.
The National Hurricane Center wrote:Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 120 miles from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 275 miles.
Even though it's only a Cat. 2, this storm's wind field is a lot larger than a typical hurricane. That is why they are expecting the storm surge to be so high, along with widespread wind damage. The city of Houston is expected to get 90 mph winds downtown.

That's nice.

The strongest winds come on the eastern side of the eye. Highway 6 is on the far North West side.

The distance from Galveston to the center of Houston is about 50 miles. The distance between the northwest end of Galveston Bay and Houston is about half that.

But it gets even better than that. A simple Google map check shows that Highway 6 runs southeast to Bayou Vista (Ditch Vista for Dinsdale) which is on the Gulf coast just the other side of Galveston Island.

That's not what I said, now was it?

The NWS in Houston is expecting water up to 9 feet deep, a mile inland, in some places in and around Galveston Bay.

The fetch on this storm is huge.

I'll be back tomorrow when the storm surge had no effect on the city of Houston.

I've seen tropical storms in Houston that'll have twice as much rain as this Hurricane.

It’s not the rain, you fucking idiot. It’s the 50-foot wall of water being pushed northwest out of Galveston Bay by 90 mph winds.

Houston is 13 feet above sea level. If a 20 foot storm surge comes up Galveston Bay, how is it that Houston is not affected?

I'd almost pay money to see you try to sell wind chimes 100 miles north of the Galveston area on Saturday morning during "just a rain storm."

The NWS has hurricane wind warnings in effect 250 miles inland through 1 a.m. Sunday, dumbass.

m2, 100 miles northwest where Fu and I are will suffer exponentially less than where Lefty is. Noone is really disputing that. Our risk is power outage and very slight risk of tornado. This storm is coming in close to where Alicia came in. Are you saying that Alicia, with a far smaller storm surge, caused little damage to HOUSTON? If THIS storm comes in around Jamaica Beach, the surge will come straight up the bay, straight up the ship channel, and flooding FROM THE SURGE could be as far inland as Pasadena, South Houston, and even to the Magnolia area. Why do you think LaPorte was evacuated?

Guess where the storm is predicted to come in? Bringing plenty of BOLTs of lightning.

To say this storm isn't going to affect Houston by both wind and surge is ridiculous. At 12 mph forward speed, you are correct in that this might not be a huge RAIN event. The sheer size of the thing might negate that, however.

I'm not worried about flooding as we live on an elevated lot, but that storm surge out of the bay could very will push the river and lake out of it's banks. We should be okay, but the community could be in a lot of trouble. Don't know.
