Pat Fitzgerald had his team ready to play, gotta like what he has going at Northwestern.
Gary Pinkel did not have his team ready, 3 straight games of poor 1st halves. Chubby was horrible. Northwestern just ran out of gas, MU defense finally stepped up in 4th.
rack the melt downs on tigerboard, it has been entertaining all game long
Go figure, Wolffert has been mr.Automatic and he misses a sitter.
very good game.
PS last time Northwestern won a bowl game? 1949, vs CAL. buwahahhaha

Good summation, I'm pretty surprised in the way Pinkel finished this season. I honestly thought he was a better coach than this, three unimpressive performances in a row with his most loaded team? This game should have been a grudgefuck where the tigers took out a lot of frustration and blew NW off the field, not a nailbiter.
But Mizzou did still get a W and back-to-back 10-wins seasons. That is still a significant achievement. So what is Pinkel going to do in terms of a new coordinator?

Yeah I watched the game at a bar with a friend of mine who is a considerably older black man and used to coach football for about 3 1/2 decades of his life. Some of the regular assholes who know I am Oklahoma Alum started to chide me about the Big 12 Defenses. My friend was just looking at me with this coy smile because the Misery defense is something we had been discussing since
week one against Illinois. Nobody who paid attention to the Big 12 this season could deny that Misery's D was atrocious (you can feel free to do CFB board search for my call out after the Iliini game). Thank God they're in the North because Misery
might have finished 5th in the Big 12 south this season.

Agree to a point but Northwestern scored 24 points per game in the Big 11 and 23 against misery in OT yet no one is on here complaining about how bad the Big 11 defenses are.

There's a danger, I think, in reading too much into a bowl game for a few reasons. One is the disconnect between the bowl games and the regular season -- 3-6 weeks, with finals coming in between at most schools.
Another reason is that the current system gives us one meaningful game and 33 glorified consolation games. Based on last year, a school like Mizzou had to have at least BCS aspirations heading into this season. For them, the Alamo Bowl had to be a huge disappointment. Northwestern, on the other hand, was probably in the "happy to be here" category. On paper, this matchup is a blowout, but under these circumstances, it's not so shocking to figure out how it suddenly becomes a nailbiter on the field.
As for Pinkel, I'm not quite sure why Mizzou fan (and I realize that neither Danimal nor Sun Coast is Mizzou fan) has it in for this guy. Certainly, this is the best consecutive two-season run Mizzou has had in recent memory, if not ever. It's not exactly as though this program was running off national championships left and right before he got there.

I'm not sure whether age has altered my vision or merely my perspective (or more likely, both), but I kept thinking that Chase's mom was way hotter than that pasty girl next to her.

MU had some really good teams Under Dan Devine, remember him? He had like 4-6 top 15 teams, i dont feel like looking.
They went out and beat some very good squads.
Pinkel is a product of the North falling apart. This is still the same coaching staff that was 0-fer while losing at half. They dont know how to adjust to game situations.
in game adjustments? What's that?

I should just let this lie, as the season is over, but what the hell.
I wrote
during the Illinois game that Mizzou had a solid group of lineman and linebackers, but that the secondary was pathetic. 4 months later and nothing had changed. Of course I realize that a defense is only as strong as it's weakest link, but to disparage the
entire unit isn't quite accurate or fair.
Sean Weatherspoon, Brock Christopher, Ziggy Hood, Stryker Sulak... those are some damn good players.
And as long as I'm naming names, the one member of the secondary who was supposedly good, William Moore, got torched more than any other.

Warren Powers had some good Mizzou teams in the early 80's with Phil Bradley and Kelvin Winslow.
Not to be lost in all this is that NW's DC is Mike Hankwitz who was DC at Colorado with McCartney, Slick, and even Barnett. also had a stint at ATM. he's seen Pinkie's stuff before.
edit: Hankwitz never coached for Slick. Slick brought in AJ Christof. Hankwitz was at CU for almost 10 years with McCartney. 5 years at ATM and then again with Barnett at CU.

I remember Devine, but as Missouri coach he was a little before my time. I do remember him coaching the Packers and ND.
Also, you are aware that the example you picked out had the fourth highest winning percentage all-time among Missouri coaches, no? And that of the three in front of him, two coached for only one season apiece and none coached later than 1919?
Btw, Pinkel's career winning percentage as Missouri coach is .586. Missouri's all-time winning percentage is .541. Those figures don't include this season, so both will be going up, although Pinkel's winning percentage will be rising by a significantly greater amount.

Maybe so, but in the final analysis you still play the teams that line up against you. Pinkel has done enough to keep his job safe for the time being. Should we see a resurrection of Nebraska's program in the near future, of course, that could change. But to call for his head now is a bit premature, or late, depending on your perspective.

Nobody called for his head, Crappy. Where'd you glean that?
He just inked a new deal paying him in the upper echelon of Big XII coaches.
We're stuck with him, for better or worse. Doesn't mean we won't bitch and moan to our hearts content.
