ELIMINATED!
sorry asshat, but that's a spelling error and not a grammatic error
what are the rules on incorrectly calling someone out on what is clearly not a grammatical error, but merely a spelling error
you should be
ELIMINATED from
ELIMNATING people

Felix, spelling errors
are spelling errors, right? The rules were stated in the first post of this thread. I already C&P'd you the section which clearly states that for the purposes of this contest spelling errors will be cause for elimination.
Dio...
Many authors of usage guides, editors, teachers, and others feel strongly that such “absolute” words as complete, equal, perfect, and especially unique cannot be compared because of their “meaning”: a word that denotes an absolute condition cannot be described as denoting more or less than that absolute condition.
Those authors of usage guides, editors, teachers and others are correct.
u⋅nique
/yuˈnik/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [yoo-neek] Show IPA
–adjective
1. existing as the only one or as the sole example; single; solitary in type or characteristics: a unique copy of an ancient manuscript.
2. having no like or equal; unparalleled; incomparable: Bach was unique in his handling of counterpoint.
3. limited in occurrence to a given class, situation, or area: a species unique to Australia.
4. limited to a single outcome or result; without alternative possibilities: Certain types of problems have unique solutions.
Those first four definitions of "unique" you listed are correct, and they allow for no further quantification.
The fact that lazy people are getting sloppy in their speech doesn't change the fact. Simply because people are misusing the phrase doesn't mean its definition has changed.
Something is either unique, meaning it's completely singular, or it isn't. If it's unique, by definition, it cannot be more or less unique than any other unique thing.

The last was from Random House.
Another from Merriam-Webster.
Of course, why read an idiotic dictionary when some yahoo on the internet is the source of all grammatical propriety. Just because something has been considered proper since the mid-19th century doesn't make it acceptable.

Should you accept the challenge:
-Post entirely without grammatical errors* all of the time.
-a poster is eliminated when they post a single grammatical error in any forum on T1B - and they are called on it.
-To nab another poster, quote the error and post it in this thread, marking what you perceive the error to be in red.
-obvious errors will speak for themselves...but all questionable errors will be submitted to The Deciders, who will make the final binding decisions-after consulting with Van.
There. FTFY.
I'd hate to see you misinterpreting the English language.

Nothing was taken out of context. I quoted your link's primary four defintions. I also quoted your link's opinion of the experts who do this for a living.
Your link didn't offer an opposite "conclusion," it merely offered an additional opinion and an accompanying explanation. The experts I quoted in your link adamantly disagree with that opinion. They reject it, outright.
They don't need me to agree with them. They're correct, and they know they're correct.
Additionally, their opinion on that matter has nothing to do with the evolution of a word like "gay," which now clearly has multiple, and wildly different, meanings.

Ja, because "gay" acquired all those meanings overnight. A word's denotative meaning doesn't preclude it from being used differently, and once enough people apply it to a new connotation it acquires legitimate meaning and is validated by its presence in our dictionaries. Like "unique."

ELIMINATION?
Get ready for a thesis on the use of commas.
Now, is a subject and a predicate required to make a complete sentence in this contest? If so, Van's already gone.

Van's comma usage is perfectly fine. Can you be ELIMINATED for falsely ELIMINATING someone?
Also, forgoing a subject or predicate can be a matter of style. The context will tell you if the writer's a retard or not.

I would consider Ebonics a type of style too, but I would not call it "proper" in any sense of this "competition." I'm not sure what "proper" rule in not having a subject or a predicate breaks, but I would have thought it would be forbidden in this here thing.
Maybe it is just in some people's "style" to refer to cunnilingus as fellatio...but who am I to judge...

I didn't eliminate anybody, hence the question mark.
There are not always clear and concise rules when it comes to commas in all instances, anyway. Commas are used, among other reasons, to emphasize how you want something to be read. Read that sentence aloud, and throw in a break after the word "different," and tell me that doesn't sound awkward to you.

Ebonics is a linguistically-recognized dialect of English.
CAL.
If word choice is a criterion in this here contest then I have been
ELIMINATED! I should have said it could be used for effect.

It's not the most lyrical of statements, but Van's commas were used parenthetically, which is one of the clearest rules for comma usage.

Leave it to Mclubbed to decipher whom is or is not a retard, by context. Chump wouldn't know context if it joined him in the Peace Corp.
The problem with anouncements is that everyone gets them. So even the CFB boys, ensconced in their own little worldlet, think they have something worth saying.

Commas, shmommas. That comma was fine, but sometimes I do have a bad stylistic habit of skipping necessary commas. I sometimes write dialogue in the same rhythm it's spoken, and often times that doesn't work. Gotta always remind myself to stay on top of that...
