The truth is that Cal will probably lose 2 or 3 games this year and you'll claim another national championship.

Not that it'll ever happen but Cal could beat USC and go 12-0 and they still wouldn't get into the BCS title game, not unless Florida and/or OU and Texas pick up a loss. If Florida and the Big XII winner also run the table, and there's little reason to believe they won't, they're getting in, not Cal.
Florida is about as much of a lock to run the table this season as we'll ever see in the SEC, or any BCS conference besides the Big 10. (Some years, if Ohio St schedules shittily enough OOC they're a near lock to run the table during the regular season.)
I'd like to know who's going to beat OU or Texas during the regular season, besides each other? Look at their schedules. Look at Florida's schedule.
Your national title match up is going to come from those three teams. It almost doesn't matter what anybody else does. Even ND (or USC) could run the table and not get in, not over those three teams, not this year.

Phil...
... also has Cal ranked in the top 10 on both O-line and D-line (10th in both). Cal is the only PAC-10 team to make both top 10 lists.
He ranks Cal's secondary as the best in the PAC-10 and 3rd in the nation!
If Cal gets consistant QB play do you think they win the pac 10?
Ted
Yep... When I look at that roster, I see a team with few holes. If Kevin Riley becomes the QB he should be, the Bears are a top-10 team and should challenge for the Rose Bowl..
some more good work

Who would win in a cage match? Taylor Mays or Tim Tebow?
Ted
Mays... but Tebow would surely talk Mays out of fighting and they'd then go build houses in the Philippines...And then, 40 years hence, president Tebow would make Mays secretary of defense...
The Cal Bears. They’ve got a returning quarterback in Kevin Riley who will be entering his third year under quarterback guru Jeff Tedford. They’ve got the most explosive running back in the nation in Jahvid Best. The offensive line has three or four guys back, depending on who you ask, even though losing center Alex Mack will hurt, and the top receivers are all in school again.
Then there are the eight defensive starters back to try and top last year’s 34 takeaways. That’s including the entire secondary and the entire defensive line. Corner Syd’Quan Thompson might be the most underrated defensive back in the country.
And finally, the schedule sets up nicely. The only tough road game appears to be the early contest at Oregon, and while that won’t be easy, the Bears have beaten Oregon four of the last five times they’ve played, including the last meeting in Eugene. And USC might actually have a down year for the first time since Pete Carroll righted that ship. It won’t be easy, but if you’re looking for a legit dark horse, Cal’s a decent bet at 50-1 odds. .

Ok, so one guy has West Virginia, one has Penn State, one has Georgia, another has Bama, as having an honest shot at the national title. This is besides, Florida, OU, Tex, and $UC. Then there are those who they think Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, and then at the end of the article they mention Cal. Well there are enough teams on that list to fill 3 conferences.....and then they mention Cal......Cal may have an outside shot but there's no way they make it that far. They'll lose to $C and probably one more conference game and one non conference game on their way to another holiday bowl appearance. Then you'll come in here again and say how the ref's screwed them and a load of more M2ool bullshit.
