Van, a few years ago, my son was about 7 or 8 and I'm out mowing the lawn in the morning. Well it one of those hot mornings but it just had to get done.....anyway I'm just about to finish up and it's around 9:30-10:00 and my kid comes into the back yard and says, "Dad, it's real hot out here and you look thirsty, here's a beer."

Right then I knew he was a keeper...... :D

Heh...didn't really catch that. I was like, why's he saying that to Van? To his defense, Van and I have a very similar avatar.

True dat. Peripherally the black background and the orange-yellow-red flames are very similar.

And I think if you look real close you'll notice shutyomouth is actually in the crowd of the Aggie bonfire.

Well, it's done except for seeding. Here's some shots from yesterday during the rain. I wanted to make sure they graded it properly and the water was filtering towards the grate. They did an awesome job.

you the lucky guy that gets to pick all the rocks out or are you gonna cover it over with top soil?

You should start a fuckin rock quarry with all the rocks you got.

Looks like a job well done. Out here in the liberal, green, sustainable, transparent, ecologically diverse U & L, the rain water off the soils running into the drain and then into the ditch would get your ass fined, the contractor fined and possibly criminally cited, and all kinds of general government regulatory bullshit. There would be all kinds of gubmint honks with orange vests and cameras, and rule books circle jerking around your project.

We have to put waddle bags ( bags with wood chips) all around the man hole / drain cover, waddle strips along the road to keep ALL the top soil in place and not moving with the water.

If you plan on mowing the bitch, wait until it drys a bit, roll it down and then I am assuming your are having it hydro seeded ?

Other wise them rocks is coming up your ass on the mower..you do have a riding mower right ?

Actually, there are no rocks. The only rocks are in the rip-rap by the pipe entrance. This is to keep water from washing away the dirt around the pipe entrance.

What you see that looks like rocks are large clods of dirt that need to be broken up. The landscape company will be coming by Saturday to drop 2 triaxles of topsoil. They will compact/drag/grade it. Then they will lay mix in some limestone, seed it, fertilize it. Throw some erosion matting where necessary and then straw on top of it.

As for the water flowing down the manhole into the ditch, Derron, as you can see the way it was before, it went in the ditch anyway. I actually had to go to the city's Board of Works to ask for approval to put pipe in the ditch. They prefer the water runs into the local water table as opposed to running through pipe and out to a field where it will drain into a river and someone downriver gets to use the water we need to cycle through our area.

And yeah, I got a riding mower. In my Garage Decor thread in the BTPCFB forum, I put a pic of my mowing sled. 61" front-mounted Grasshopper zero turn. I got a 42" rider craftsman from my last house. I mowed the first time on my lot with it and it took almost 3 hours. The Grasshopper takes 50 miutes for 2.5 acres. Could shave off 10 minutes probably if I wasn't so anal about getting the lines in the yard looking nice.

That's how it is pretty much every where. The locals in the 3 county area around Portland just have different regs than the rest of the state. They see any sediment moving anywhere, anytime in any fashion and the whole fuckin jobs stops, and does not restart until they are satisfied and that can be beyond the regulations.

Around here they would have made us put in some gabions to slow the water down before it discharged, and the pipe would have been half the size, but you get them gully washers and have to move a fair amount of water in a hurry. And the Water Board is right, about the water running away versus going into the water table. But your deal moves the water off your acres into the table, its just the transient water you are moving through the pipe.

The Hopper was a good choice, it should do the job for you quite well. Got the good traction tires on it for your slopes and all. Props on your crib and property and props to you for doing shit the right way.
