i don't believe it. but, hey?
when Stoops is on the road recruiting in San Diego and says "he's going to be at Oklahoma next year"....i think that's right.
Not... going... to... happen.

I'm not familiar with the OKC media but I can guarantee you they are well below the Des Moines media in terms of douchebaggery.
except there is a lot more at stake, hot rod.
make your list of Final Fours, BCS games, National Championships, Sweet Sixteens etc that are about Iowa and not Oklahoma?

Let me guess, Stoops also said "bring on USC", right? If that's the email you got, the guy's name is Tom Mannion and he's full of shit. He has a hard-on for most ND sites and likes to cause trouble. Total bullshit.

Is it really that much of a desirable job anymore?
Under the old administration? No. Under the current administration? It remains to be seen. Notre Dame is still one of those jobs where if you win and win big, you can become a college football legend very quickly.
There are overriding issues with Notre Dame as it stands now. Notre Dame likes to pride itself on the fact that football players are just like regular students and live with everyone else. As Terry has stated, there are no athletic dorms at ND. This causes an issue because unlike 99.99999% of universities, Notre Dame does not have a training table for it's athletes. Doesn't sound like a big deal, but when everyone else has one and a nutritionist telling the kids what to eat, it is a factor.
ND has made strides in terms of what they pay their coaches, but for a long time it was very far behind.
ND likely won't land a coach like Stoops or Meyer because frankly that type of hire has never happened in college football. They will likely end up with an up and comer like Brian Kelly. If they provide him with the necessary support, he can make the job very desirable again

i don't think that's as big a deal as has been made. Colorado doesn't have athletic dorms. players live in the frosh-soph dorms like everyone else.

Bama does that, too.
Vandy too

Do players live with other players? And are most of the players in one dorm? ND does the dorm assingments like they would any other kid who was going to ND, unless the football player enrolls early. So next year, Louis Nix will be rooming with some random kid instead of another football player, and he will be in a random dorm.
Most colleges don't have "athletic specific" dorms, but most of the athletes stay in a certain dorm. At UofM, there are no specific dorms but all of the football players live in West Quad.
That makes it much easier to monitor the intake of food and put them at a training table.

at Colorado and Vandy (and U of Denver and Colorado College which are hockey D-1 giants).....the players room with reg students. eat in the dorms. outside OU (which does have athletic dorms), these are the places i have personal experience with...and all have some legit academic cred in addition to proven athletics.
i think you are making way too much Notre Dame "exceptionalism" about this.

As of about 1998 or something, regular students can live in Bud. There's some kind of NCAA rule about athletic housing being available to regular students.
i kind of knew that, given Sooner 04 and the old days at sf.com.
