Well, except for the beginning, Private Ryan blew chunks. Pacific is basically a nine-hour movie, and so the character development, details, and battle scenes are all more...realistic? And sure, wagoner, the American gets clipped in the trench--that was episode one. In the episode two sequence to which I referred, it's just non-stop slaughter of the Japs without a single American getting shot. I've got it recorded. I don't doubt the basic tallies of the brutal fight--32,000 out of 36, 000 Japanese killed, to about 7,000 out of 60, 000 Americans. Clearly if the Japanese had established their base on the strategic little isle the whole war would have been much much worse.

As if you need any further reason to rationalize or justify the slaughter of the Japanese army, try checking out The Rape Of Nanking (2007) a horrifying documentary of Japan's ruthless genocidal assault on China--starting with Shanghai and marching inland to Nanking, killing everyone in between. Even the German Nazis who were visiting were shocked.

(yeah, goober, yer grammar suffers what's known as a "predication error"--and a Freudian would interpret yours pretty easily. just sayin' )

I'm thinking your posts suffer from a "non-medcation error".

Goobs, get over it. It was a simple predication error upon which you were duly called--for its unintentional comic result. Don't worry, I don't really think you want to be plowed by some black dude--though most of the seething neo-nazi KKK types are closet queers who do harbor such twisted lust. Hence their violent irrationality, etc.

The U.S. military in the Pacific of course was totally segregated and so there's not a single black guy in the show, so far. Don't worry, there'll be no temptations.

You're bat-shit crazy. That movie is a masterpiece, start to finish... easily on my top 5 of all war movies.
Pacific is basically a nine-hour movie, and so the character development, details, and battle scenes are all more...realistic?
Episode 2, in 50 minutes, was certainly realistic. 9 hours has nothing to do with it more realistic.

Perhaps the term you're reaching for is "in-depth". And the other term you're missing is "dialogue". While the battle scenes are magnificent, it's the inter-action between the Marines that's so cool.

Great writing and delivery, great everything you've ever watched a movie for. You better pay close attention every second or you'll miss something.... I'm going to have to watch that episode again because I know I missed something.

There was this one exchange between 2 of 'em. I think they were talking about what brand of smokes they were being given, the cheap ass Ralieghs for Marines, the better Camels for the Army or some such... and going away off camera the guy says in voice that just cracked me up... "I guess we're fucked"

For those who might read this who haven't watched it yet, wait until you come across that scene and don't miss it. Amid all the carnage there is this wry, gallows humor that perhaps only a Van could truly appreciate.

I'm so sick and tired of the tuskegee airman exaggerations!

The White pilots cleared the skies of nearly all the enemy fighters and as the front line of the war moved forward so did the White pilots. The tuskegee airmen were the third string mop up duty that got in the game after the outcome was already decided.

Once the White pilots cleared the skies in Africa they sent the negro pilots in while the White pilots moved on to the european threatre of operation. Then they called for the nogs after those skies were cleared to escort the bombers.

The only person smart enough to verify this simple truth is the great mvscal.

The only thing the nogs did in WWII was to be the busboy on navy ships or some other trivia physical labor hundreds of miles from the front line.

Basically, they freed up non combat jobs so the White people could die on the front lines.

Keep in mind they were less than 10% of the population back then. Considering thier status and the work they did in the war effort they carried thier weight.

pickle, stfu.

the tuskeegee airmen served admirably. they did see some combat which I'll wager is more than you'll ever be able to say. so, they weren't doing the real heavy lifting which was daytime bomber escort over germany, but, so fuking what?

All I want is for motherfuckers to tell the fucking truth!

I'm sick and tired of lies and exaggerations to build the confidence of young n.gg.ers!

Eddie Rickenbacker was told to "shut the fuck up!" when he tried to squelsch the exaggerations about the tuskeegee airman.

It's a little bit like the ni.gg.er invention list claiming that ni.gg.ers invented the stop light, combustible engine, internet and dust pan.... etc..etc...

Just tell us the truth or FUCK OFF AND DIE!

actually, they invented some really good music throughout quite a bit of the 20th century. Kinda been slacking off though since about the mid 70s.

Episode Four...

The PTSD episode. Well done. This thing is eight times better than Private Ryan--and approaching Thin Red Line.
