well lets define what you consider to constitute a
"cultural influence" and be specific
heres one definition:
An integrated pattern of human knowledge, belief, and behavior that depends upon the capacity for symbolic thought and social learning
The set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an institution, organization or group
now, explain to me how the hip hop culture doesn't meet this criteria
And why is it important to teach it to our children?
why is it important to elevate the status of a traitor like Jefferson Davis to being the equal of Abraham Lincoln.....lets face it, the only thing the Texans were arguing for is their right to own blacks as slaves...nothing more, nothing less...heres the text of their acceptance of the Confederation (which verifies that)
[Texas] was received into the Confederacy with her own constitution, under the guarantee of the federal Constitution and the compact of annexation, that she should enjoy these blessings. She was received as a commonwealth holding, maintaining and protecting the institution known as negro slavery -- the servitude of the African to the white race within her limits -- a relation that had existed from the first settlement of her wilderness by the white race, and which her people intended should exist in all future time.
In all the non-slave-holding states, in violation of that good faith and comity which should exist between entirely distinct nations, the people have formed themselves into a great sectional party, now strong enough in numbers to control the affairs of each of those states, based upon an unnatural feeling of hostility to these Southern states and their beneficent and patriarchal system of African slavery, proclaiming the debasing doctrine of equality of all men, irrespective of race or color -- a doctrine at war with nature, in opposition to the experience of mankind and in violation of the plainest revelations of divine law.
so much for the "all men are created equal" propositition.....and apparently, they thought it was gods will for white people to own blacks ( imust have missed that chapter in their holy book, but I'm almost positiive it must be in there somewhere).....seriously, if I were Texan, that would embarass the shit out of me.....
Teachers have finite time to teach the infinite amt of bullshit you idiots want them to.
so I'm assuming you consider teaching the influence of Latin Americans in this country to constitutes "bullshit"?
but again, tell me what you consider to be "bullshit" and we'll have something to talk about

Mormon moron? C'mon, if you're going to invert and dodge, at least mix in a comma.
The issue of a militant conservative Christer cabal hijacking the Texas school curriculum does not involve any ACLU issues of contesting public funded Nativity scenes or anything like that. And no one except you has suggested as much.
Rather it's a clear case of a rabidly religious cult--with a very perverted ethos and a wildly distorted version of history--breaking cover and simply declaring their bid for imposing a sort of Hebraic Sharia upon the United States.
As a scampering type (and a total liar if you're really stating you're not a "flat out Christer") you can probably unearth an acorn or two concerning John Calvin...

I've never really bothered to read your drivel before and now I am thankful I traditionally have skipped over it for the better part of the last four years. There isn't a poster here from as far back as RTT and Scobode who isn't well fucking aware that I have never practiced any form of Christianity in my entire adult life. Anyone who even tries to assert that Judeo-Christian beliefs haven't had a profound and lasting effect on this continent and country since the 15th century is beyond being an imbecile. It's even more idiotic to attempt to erase that history just because you don't like it.

Change your diapers, you hand wringing dipshit. Who the fuck is "elevating Davis' status" and how, exactly is that accomplished?
Are we supposed to study the Civil War without recognizing the importance of Davis' role? I've got news for you, you whimpering shitstain, the purpose of studying history is emphatically NOT to point your finger and issue hysterical value judgments based on your own personal morality.
Grow up, you fucking baby.

the Texas Board of Education you fucking moron....maybe you should read what their plans are
Are we supposed to study the Civil War without recognizing the importance of Davis' role?
it's already taught in school...I learned, so did everybody else I know...but elevating him to the stature of Lincoln is fucking insane...but that's what they intend on doing...or didn't you know that

I thought history was teaching about historical events and how they relate to how we got to where we are right now....so why does the Texas School Board want to exclude the study of hispanic influence on the United States, or are you saying that hispanic culture has not influenced this country...why did they choose to virtually eliminate Thomas Jefferson from the history books while including people like Calvin and Locke (who weren't Americans by the way) why do they want to falsely portray the founding fathers as being heavily influenced by Judeo Christian values while excluding the whole discussion of separation of church and state....why do they want to elevate Ronald Regan to god like status....these fucking morons want to introduce creationism as a legitimate explanation of how the world came to be....

Felix, I have no obligation to prove a negative. You, otoh, do an obligation to establish that there is some important cultural influence that has been contributed by hip hop. Then you may present an argument why that influence deserves to be taught in our schools. I'm sure, though, that no one here will be holding their breath waiting for that.

As the leader of the Confederacy he
was equal in stature and importance to Lincoln.
why did they choose to virtually eliminate Thomas Jefferson from the history books while including people like Calvin and Locke (who weren't Americans by the way)
The context is in reference to Enlightenment philsophers, you stupid, handwringing pantload.
why do they want to falsely portray the founding fathers as being heavily influenced by Judeo Christian values
The portrayal is not even remotely false. You have been poorly educated.
while excluding the whole discussion of separation of church and state....
You mean they aren't going to discuss the Constitution? Try again, asshole.
why do they want to elevate Ronald Regan to god like status....
Elevate to god like status?!? No hysterical exagerration there or anything. I'm sure that is exactly what they are going to do.

The influence is negative. By all means include a study the "hip hop subculture" just don't forget to cover the social impact of the violence, racism, misogyny and belligerent ignorance that characterize that particular "cultural influence."
I believe liberal load guzzlers like to refer that as a "teachable moment."

I believe athletic coaches were calling it that for years before "liberal load guzzlers" picked it up.
Please don't ever mention the phrase "teachable moment" ever again. TIA.

not even close...

so what you're saying here is that Jefferson was merely regugitating the thoughts of Locke and Calvin, with nary an original thought of his own?
The portrayal is not even remotely false. You have been poorly educated.
the religious beliefs of the founding fathers were diverse, but they strived to ELIMINATE any and all references to religion when establishing the constitution....the texas school board opted to eliminate any discussion of the founding fathers beliefs in separation of church and state...why is that?
they want to eliminate the word "capitalist" because they think it conjures up bad images?
good gawd, they want to elevate the stature of Tex Avery and eliminate any references to Tejanos that fought at the Alamo?
WTF is wrong with these people?

Name a building in every state for him. Put his mug on the $50 bill (a $3 bill would be more appropriate). Plaster his mug on just about every public locale you can think of.
Yeah, those things haven't come to pass yet, but they are definitely among the right's objective. Elevate to god-like status? Maybe not, but Mao-esque status, definitely.

Things I Love About Reagan:
- Running away like a scared girl from Beirut.
- Giving weapons systems to the Ayatollah.
- Helping groom a plucky young "freedom fighter" with stars in his eyes and a dream in his heart. [cough]Osama[/cough]

Nice intellectual honesty, there, little man. Seems you forgot the rest of the quote:

Not my fault that the American people finally wised up to your clowns' act (for the time being, at least), and that they're now in the minority as a result.
