Gaza is under a declared maritime blockade. These vessels were underway with the declared intention of violating the blockade. Under international maritime law, those vessels may be stopped and boarded. The fact that they were "flagged white" or in international water is irrelevant.

67. Merchant vessels flying the flag of neutral States may not be attacked unless they:

The vessels were warned and ordered to reroute to an Israeli port to offload their humanitarian supplies. They refused so they suffered the inevitable consequences of their own actions.

In any event, this escapade has absolutely nothing to do with delivering wheelchairs. They challenged the blockade in order to provoke an incident. This should be clear to you.

No doubt. That's what they get for attempting to comply with international law, though. They are required to use non-lethal force if at all possible and they did try. Unfortunately, the knife and club wielding "peace activists" weren't particularly impressed with paint ball guns.

A more definitive display of lethal intent might possibly have averted this incident.

It reminds me of the Oka crises, three sections on infantry were sent into an Indian reserve looking for weapons, the problem was that they were loaded down as if it were a NATO exercise. FN C1s, machine guns, radios, etc.
They started mingling with the natives and it turned into a bar-room brawl. The Indians were pulling off their helmets and taking their guns and beating them with it and there was nothing they could do, they couldn't move, they had too much equipment on. The worst was, half of them ran and it was all captured on film.

Wrong again. They started firing rockets in 2001 (four years before the Israelis left). There was a major uptick of attacks in 2007 and the blockade was enacted.
