I'm going to pull a page straight out of your playbook and say that I beg to differ. There will be no links, but hearing the same story from different people affiliated with schools that Reggie was being recruited by, signed with, and no connection to the NCAA at all, lead me to believe that there was more than a bit of truth there.

And let's not get started on Joe McKnight. That's such a running joke that it's followed him to the NFL.

I HATE being late for OOC conference smack.....

Funny how when schools talk about strengthening their OOC, UCLA seems to pop up on the schedule....Not that UCLA HAS been that tough lately, but NEVER lacks for a strong OOC... never, ever, ever....

good point. when you first schedule an opponent, you think of them as they are when you schedule them, and not when you get around to playing them.

It's still fun beating those fuckers though, especially since we have taken it on the chin so often from them in B-ball.

Isn't this the last year of the series?

Word, Bace. I mean, we all thought Youngstown State was going to be 1-A when we got around to playing them. Scheduling can be pesky...

really, Bugeater? I mention it in the other thread, but with all the love for Bo and NU with Corso and other publications.....this is some sad shit (to paraphrase the venerable Clay Davis). Move over Bill Snyder, take a seat Mike Leach.

This sched was put together by our old AD Pedey in order to make his boy Callahan look good. Thankfully both are gone and future sched won't be a joke like this.

you guys better hope that 1. UW is a 7-8 win team and 2. you win at UW. SOS ain't what it used to be but an OOC like that, and say UW isn't .500, isn't going to help you out if you are a "1 loss team" in the pack of 1 loss teams....whether it's computers or drunken sports writers. However, IMO, NU loses at least 2. maybe 3.

I realize it's foreign to you Big 12 guys, but it's called "defense", you dumbfuck.
And btw, Nebraska's cupcake OOC schedule appears tougher than their Big 12 North schedule.

you said D was "foreign" to the Big XII...sounds like the Big XII's top d's were comparable to the Ten's. against better offenses.

You haven't watched a Big 10 game for several years, have you? And apparently you either haven't watched Big 12 North games or you're piss poor at evaluating football teams. Yeah, that's probably it.

Like Nebraska's offense? Or Iowa State's offense? Or Colorado's offense? How about Kansas and K-State? Yeah, those are some real offensive juggernauts.

I'm not sure they've woken from 1972.

Half the conference runs a spread these days. The other half runs a pro style balanced attack. And those are the teams that win in this league. I know passing is fun, but I don't need to see Texas Tech throw 104 times a game to be entertained. Mix in a tailback or two, jeesh.

Padding your defensive stats against shit offenses doesn't mean you play great defense....in any conference. The Big 12 North sucks....period....and it has forever. Are you trying to say otherwise?

Mace wrote:The Big 12 North sucks....period....and it has forever. Are you trying to say otherwise?
i didn't say anything about the North in this thread. but, here ya go....maybe if you said 5 of the last 6 years i might agree or if you said the balance of power in the XII shifted South over the last 15 years i might agree...but the North has been pretty strong at times and was very formidable the first 5 years of the conference as you can see.

define "suck" and "forever" for me...i'd like to operationalize the terms here. in the interim, Big XII North end of season AP ranked teams since the formation of the conference (1996) ...keeping in mind that NU is coming off back to back MNC's in 94 and 95 as well (95 had 4 future North teams in the top 10). in 14 years, the North had multiple top 10 teams 6 of those seasons....and every member of the North has finished a season ranked (even ISU).

1996: Nebraska (6); Colorado (8); Kansas State (17)
1997: Nebraska (2); KSU (8); Missouri (23)
1998: KSU (10); NU (19); MU (21)
1999: NU (3); KSU (6)
2000: NU (8); KSU (9); Iowa State (25)**
2001: NU (8); CU (9)
2002: CU (20)
2003: KSU (14); NU (19)
2004: none
2005: NU (24)
2006: none
2007: MU (4); KU (7)
2008: MU (19)
2009: NU (14)

No one will dispute that Nebraska was a dominant force in college football in the 90's....before falling to mediocrity and actually allowing their Big 12 North sisters an opportunity to actually beat them and, yes, I obviously overstated my case by saying "forever". But how many of those rated teams from the north beat OU or Texas? Or did they happen to crack the rankings in years they weren't scheduled to meet the only two great programs in the Big 12? Mizzou had a couple of decent seasons with the Pillsbury Doughboy at QB but their mediocre defense made them fodder for the South, and no one has ever mentioned "Missouri" and "traditional national power" in the same sentence.

Nebraska had a great defense last season but still lost games because they had no real offense.....that and the turnovers against ISU. I'm not convinced that Nebraska is totally back to their former selves....yet, but I think they've got things headed in the right direction and will once again become a national power in the near future.

so, the definition of "suck" is not beating OU or Texas in the last decade. nationally, that's going to put all but about 10 teams on the "suck" list.

take NU out of the picture and the North still has 15 ranked teams over 14 years. still an average of more than 1 a year. we all know the North has been the lesser division over the last 7-8 years but to say flat out that the North "sucks" is a bit silly. to diminish Colorado's Big XII Champ Fiesta Bowl team, MU's two good Daniel teams--in 07 they lose only to OU twice and win the Cotton Bowl (against an SEC team!), handful of top 10 Snyder-KSU teams, and KU's BCS win in the Orange Bowl is like saying that an Iowa or Wiscy team that plays in the Capital One Bowl sucks, too. correct me if i'm wrong, but that's a pretty good year...no?

No, "not beating OU and Texas", but not playing them. Playing them would turn those 10-2 or 9-3 seasons into 8-4 or 7-5 seasons and earn them a trip to a lesser bowl game and a big drop in the rankings, if they're ranked at all. I'll stick with saying that the Big 12 North pretty much sucks and that the sucking will continue in this, their final season of existence. Next season, when the Big 12 starts playing round robin, you want to guess who'll make up the majority of lower half of the conference standings?
