dieting will undoubtedly help. the % depends on a number of factors

for me, i find that a steady diet of 25 mile round trip commutes will get me there. the bike commutes along with a proper diet will get me there quicker. you could even get there on diet alone, but, that is the shittiest way to do it in more ways than one.

others with different bodies/diets/metabolisms will have varying results. if your name is dinsdale, you are stuck on skinny no matter what you jam down your piehole.

Case in point. My wife has a horrible bag of dough for a best friend. Some (probably none) would remember her as the one who gained 120lbs after moving to KC. Horrible eating habits that she is passing on to her two kids. It's like the demise of Violet from the first Willy Wonka film in slow motion. Pathetic.

Now I see her occasionally at the gym on the treadmill (poor treadmill). I try to encourage her and tell her to keep it up. I don't really care, I just don't want to go to a funeral of a 30 year old who ate themselves to death and try and keep a straight face. I gave up on patting her on her gravy-infused back when my wife told me after the gym she "rewards" herself with a mocha frappe from McDonalds.

That's right folks. This stupid hog rewards herself with drink with twice as many calories than her gelatinous cankles can burn walking gingerly on a belt. I doubt her story in this country is not a unique one. Sad.
