My knowledge of netbooks is about a year outdated (since that's about the last time I did any professional computer shit). That said,
I think (as of a year ago) only about 3 companies made MBs for netbooks. They all had the exact same processor, same RAM, and same HD.
Although I'm guessing that might have changed since then (I'm almost happy not to know... being hardware all-knowing gets old).

Great... I'll just sit on XP Pro SP 3 for my personal use. If it's not broke, don't fix it.
I remember running one of my stations on Linux and never had a problem ever. I just never bothered to figure out how to network it to where I could transfer files to a Windows OS machine. It was just fun to play with but whatever. Then I had the Knoppix (Unix based also) bootables and I didn't know how to XFER Win files either.

Linux is a fucking waste of time. There's a reason it's free: you need plenty of support to get even a little functonaliy, and that you fucking have to pay for.
I have an older than Luther laptop that originally ran win98,which MS quit supporting years ago. It was maxed out wth RAM (who the hell could possibly ever use a whole gigabyte of RAM?) and could hardly even run IE6. So I thought I'd convert it to a linux machine. I finally got it to where it woud run a linux version of firefox, and even got it to recognize a wireless card & connect to the internet. Nothing else fucking worked- no printer port, no usb ports, no external monitors, no external keyboard, no LAN card, not even the fucking dial up modem. Oh, sure, the support people said, some of those peripherals might be able to work if only there were 2-3gb of RAM available. It's now running XP. It's slow as fuck, but evrything works. I keep it on hand as a spare to travel with since it's no big loss if some TSA crotch-groper steals it at the security checkpoint.

That was a really enjoyable post. What a monolithic dumbfuck you are...you PAID a "linux support specialist" to help you get a Linux OS running on an old laptop? How much? bwahahahahaha

Cuda, I had a Windows 2000 Advanced Server network that I've built and all of the clients were in the domain. I played with Sun Solaris prior to Oracle getting involved along with the other open-source Unix based OS's. A co-worker back then got me into it and it was just fun to play with. He showed me how to work with it to make it functional like you were talking about, but I really didn't care enough to get into it. Taking one of those PC's and playing with the open source (meaning FREE) versions of Unix was fun.

Linux w/ Firefox is the shit.
I have Ubuntu running on a couple of old desktops and its fucking awesome. Only thing is, getting it the way I wanted to run took a lot of reading and grunt work. It's very tedious work and takes a lot of patience to setup to run like XP if you're not a tech junkie.
I have a couple of Dell Studio laptops running Windows 7 - 64 bit. It's a fucking beast. I run EasyTether w/ my Droid phone w/ 3G all the time. It's so simple.

Flash can be a little rough especially on 64bit Linux distros but I'll take that over WinShit or Metrosexual Book Pro any day.

Anyone that argues that one hardware manufacturer / PC maker is better than the other is an idiot who hasn't really worked in IT. It is all the same crap. I haven't checked lately but a few years ago, the last time I actually personally purchased a PC, HP dealt with Intel while Dell purchased from Asus for their MOBOs but saying that one is better than the other is stupid because they reserve the right to switch at any time, based on who offers them the best price. I do know some people who work for Intel and I have heard some stories about shitty quality control from some of the really cheap MB manufacturers in TW, but the fact is that there are only a few chip manufactures, a few board makers, a few LCD makers, etc... It doesn't matter who you buy your PC from, there is a great chance that the parts came from the same factories. I'm sure even some of you non geeks have heard of the 'awesome' company that foxconn is.
As far as build quality goes, there isn't much difference. Dell used to be the best because of their support in my opinion not because their PCs were any better, but they, like HP and all the other companies have long out outsourced most of their 'home' user support to India or other cheaper places. If you want better US support, go for their Business support plans.
I deal with support from all over the world for servers, storage, network equipment, and applications. Companies like Dell and HP just outsource their support to India for basic home user support, but 24/7 big business operations like Microsoft, Cisco, EMC2, etc.. generally have support services across many time zones, so during the day, you may deal with someone in the US or Canada, than India, than England, depending on when you call. The quality of support you get from India is consistently, without argument the shittiest. The problem with India is a cultural problem.
As far as Apple goes, they got their shitty reputation because of their pre-OSX software/hardware. Their designs insisted on very old technologies so when IBM made their chips, they had to keep backward compatible because Apple refused to update their OS. With OSX (thanks to Jobs purchasing NEXT os) this all changed and now with Intel they have largely caught up, however, the question remains, why is an Apple PC more expensive than a Windows PC? They now use the same exact parts so there is no real reason for the price hike. Exactly, its all a BS, a closed system that will never get close to the #s of MS Windows or even Linux. Oh wait, but Apple has the iPad and the iPhone, well get ready because they will be relegated to a lot smaller fraction of the market as Google kicks their ass. As more and more tablets come out, who the hell will spend $800 for an IPAD when you can buy 10 other tablets for half the price? As prices come down, apple will lose some of its financial success. iTunes for now rocks the sales, but Netflix, Amazon and the other companies are quickly knocking on its door. Apple TV is a joke.
I'm sorry to say but I think Apple will be beat down in the next few years as everything they do will be copied and once again people will have to choose between an overpriced iPad or an android based / windows tablet that costs half and does as much, if not more. There will always be apple fans and they will continue to buy apple as a status symbol while claiming it does it all, but their sales will come down as other devices flood the market in the next 2 years.

You realize Intel-based PCs passed Apple in FLOPS
years ago, and have never looked back, right?
Aplle
(sic)doesn't even use the most recent Intel processors, dumbass.
If you'd like to try and make a

Hardware-wise... save it. The gap between the two gets bigger all the time.
Let me get this straight. It's your contention that my Apple which I have not had any problems with is inferior to his PC which fried itself? You are dumber than used condom.
