You're relying on the testimony of a 13 yr old kid? There are many that believe (including me) that the '95 skers weren't the best Nebraska team period.

seer, Ive known for years that a lot of folks like that 71 nebraska team better, HOWEVER, and this is HUGE, in 1971, teams werent afraid to suit up against the huskers, they were indeed very good, BUT, they werent mean, they didnt have the mean streak that 1995 nebraska had. seer, you/ve got to remember, the 95 blackshirts didnt just beat ya up, they put you in the hospital, at the very least, for overnight observation, and at the most, you'd be an inch from your life, with tubes stickin thru most your orifices. ALSO, and this is monumental, 95 NU featured not one, not two, not three, but seven, count em', SEVEN convicted felons!! you want to talk about SWAGGER???

Talk about big time SWAGGER, this 95 nebraska team would put frank gore and willis mcgeehee in the emergency ward, not to mention Ken Dorsey? he'd be a sodomized biaaaaaatch, for LIFE!!!

YES SIR mr. seer, you may see a lot, as your name implies, BUT if you cant see what I am proposing here about the 95 NU squad, the "all time jaugernautt", then you are as blind as Mr. Magoo. OH, by the way, do you understand that in 1995, Dr. Tom routinely, ROUTINELY put in the 2nd and 3rd teams??? This was due to the fact that nebraska routinely got up early and often, and 95 nebraska was 3 and 4 deep at every position.

so, what have you got to say about dem' apples?

1971 Final AP rankings

1.Nebraska
2.Oklahoma (NU 35-OU 31) was ranked #2 at game time. If OU wins this game I'm certain the '56 team is an after thought and this would have been their best team all-time.
3.Colorado (NU 31-CU 7) finished 10-2 losing only to NU and OU.
4.Alabama (NU 38- Bama 6) was ranked #2 at game time

Nebraska beat the final 2nd, 3rd, and 4th ranked teams. Never happened anytime before or since and never will again. NU won non-conference games against Oregon 34-7 (Dan Fouts) and Texas A&M 34-7.

I see no one mentions them..

thats fine and sounds impressive, BUT, keep in mind, 95 NU's second team beats 71 NU, and I dont mind sayin so.
I'll go to my grave knowin that 95 NU was superior in size strength and most notably speed speed speed.

I'm just saying '71 was getting no play in this thread. I too think 1995 beats 1971, but again that's 24 years of football evolution. (Bigger, stronger, faster) For what they accomplished given the times...1971 pulled off the tougher quest.

to put this in perspective, Eddie Crowder's eventual #3 CU team won in the OOC at both #6 Ohio State and at #9 LSU. They lost to OU 45-17 and 31-7 to NU. So great was the gap between NU/OU and then CU....and then the rest.

OU beat #17 USC (33-20), #3 Texas (48-27), and then #6 Colorado (45-17) in successive weeks. After losing to NU, OU beat SEC champ Auburn (then #5) 40-22 in the Sugar Bowl.

FWIW: Colorado beat #15 Houston in the Blue-Bonnet Bowl (played in Houston) by two scores.

Clearly makes the case.

That NU / OU game will likely never be surpassed as the two best teams to ever play each other. Too much parity today balanced by conferences and NCAA limitations. It was the game of the 20th century by far and nothing this century has matched two such heavyweights meeting. Best football game I ever saw. Be clear it was still the best teams/game I'd ever seen played, if OU would have won.

Couldn't agree more. Just a wild and distracted teenager, hadn't yet relocated my primary passion from the NFL (Rams) to the college game, and was a Socal native. That true NC game had everyone geeked up. As you said, it unfortunately seldom occurs when you have -

1. Clearly the 2 best at their sport at the same time
2. They have the opportunity to play each other at a neutral site
3. Aren't hampered by injuries or scandal
4. Play a game that lives up to the hype

NO NEED TO MENTION WHAT HAPPENED IN THEIR OPENER VS. UCLA AND MARK HARMON THE FOLLOWING SEASON.

Finally this thread gets to where it should be.... That Army team was unreal...as was 71 OU, 'Bama, NU, CU, etc.....

I was just being conceived in that era and I did witness '95 Nebraska in action. That said.... 71 NU was certainly impressive. Look at the games that year. Unbelievable. As cfb fans, that season is one for the ages. As a Nebraska fan, I could with good conscience say the same thing had OU or "bama won it all. It doesn't get no better than that...that year, as a cfb fan.

papa willie, im gonna have to dis=agree with you on this one, ken dorsey was the most over=rated QB in college history,
that being said, 95 nebraska had a blackshirt defense that would shut down and cripple miami's running backs, THEN, dorsey would not only be picked off, but sacked and physically injured to the point of being taken to the hospital.

see, I watched 01 miami play, and I witnessed them barely squeak by a mediocre va tech team, and I do mean squeak by a thread. THEN, boston college, a mediocre boston college team, BENCHES the best running back in the country, and with seconds remaining, is about to put miami away, BUT, a freak kicked ball goes for an INT, and a miami score the other way.

so, in my opinion, 95 nebraska would have brutalized the pusssy canes. 95 nebraska had too much size and speed on both sides of the ball.

in every single game, 95 nebraska took out the first team by the 2nd qtr, meaning the 2nd and 3rd teams were good enough to win every game by themselves.

01 miami needed to keep their first team in for the entire game in most games. see, nebraska was too loaded on both sides of the ball, no way could miami deal with that kind of swagger and speed.

95 nebraska had more convicted felons and way more swagger.

I think you could make a case for the MNC Rose Bowl game between SC and Texas.

I don't. SC and Texas were not quite as dominant as NU & OU (USC was 0-1-0 that year, BTW). And I have a hard time seeing the Rose Bowl as a neutral site for SC.

i'd say 04 USC being better than 05 USC would detract some from the lustre.

i also think Tressel should have beat UT in the Shoe in 05. but, that's just personal gripe.

the 71 GoTC was played at Owen Field in Norman. maybe i'm misunderstanding, but not a neutral field as some seem to suggest.

the FUNNY part in all of this back and forth nonsense? is that you can forget all this usc texas bullcrap, I personally watched those sissy trojan teams from 03, 04, and 05, and you know what? 95 nebraska beats em everyday and TWICE on sundays.
I am not saying this because I am a homer, I am merely being extremely objective when I make this observation!
sure the trojans have reggie bush, HOWEVER, the florida gators featured a guy by the name of fred taylor! who, if you dont mind me saying, had to play against sec defenses, and STILL out-performed reggie. PLUS, he has over 11,000 yds in the NFL to boot, so he bests reggie in both college and pro, so, to make a long story short, if nebraska sodomized fred taylor, what the fuck do u think we'd do to reggie pooh? huh dummies?

bottom line is this, the blackshirts would wreak haavocc with the sissy trojans, PLUS, ahmann green and lawerence phillips would punch you fruits in da mout, just like vince young did.

right in Da Mout!!!!

one thing you guys FAIL to list, when talking about the "all time" jauggernautts, is SWAGGER.
now, what exactly is "swagger"? some call it bravado, some, cock and balls, some call it attitude.

in the case of 95 nebraska? I'd call it "be afraid, be very afraid"

size, speed, strength, convicted felons, steroids, giant BALLS, menacing, angry, mean streak, etc.. etc...
the list goes on and on, HOWEVER, one thing is certain, you dont want to face 'em.

was it a huger game than the 1971 game in Norman, probably not. OU bounced back from that "far more mind-fuck" L to beat AU by 3 scores in the Sugar Bowl. since the Iron Bowl teams lost bowl game cumulative 78-29 to Oklahoma and Nebraska....I'm not going too far on the "mind-fuck" is the reason AU lost theory.

better 1971 teams in the Big 8 theory, i'll take that one. seeing as how the AP voted Colorado #3....and neither AU or Bama.
