I'm not really sure why you would think that. Those people were physiologically modern humans. They had all of our creativity, intelligence and resourcefullness. Of course that also means most of them were idiotic clods, but I'm guessing stupid used to be a lot more painful than it is now.

While I can't speak for Felix, I can say that I did an interesting thing today that no Neanderthal ever could've imagined. See, I read this on an internet message board...

of course they were intelligent, creative, and resourceful otherwise we probably wouldn't be here

today, all I did was spend a shitload of taxpayer money, which definitely ranks lower on the interesting tasks scale than would hunting food to feed yourself and other members of your clan...

Not necessarily. With a series of hoots, grunts, facial expressions and clever pantomime, the same humorous concepts could have easily been conveyed about the fire.

Stand up comedy was invented around the fire in caveman days.
