Well, Rivals has now adjusted their rankings following the latest batch of All Star game-sourced commitments...

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/r ... 12/all/all

Alabama is now #1.

Cal? Still fourth in the Pac 12...still 24th overall. Still BFD.

Oh, and check out who has the highest average star rating at 3.91, with no one else even coming close. Why, it's good ol' USC. Then again, they only have eleven commitments compared to Bama's twenty-six...

Van, that's where you're so wrong. All those 11 commits for USC...well they're all silent verbals to Cal where they will go on to be outscored in every game they ever play but still win the national championship based on getting more first downs than the other team. Pull your head out.

I still disagree with how they rank this.

Since every program is not going to be pulling in 20+ recruits the average star ranking should be looked at more. USC with a 3.90 avergae star ranking certainly jumps out.

Kal is where All American HS talent goes to become an average college football team. I dont know what Tosh is using to get these kids, some sort of Jedi mind trick or something. What does Kal have to offer, some photographs and mock ups of facilities that may be finished before the kids leave in 3 years, a ton of hippys and asians all over campus, a pinko commie liberal education, annual ass kicking at the hands of USC and perennial under achievement on the field, sign here kids. Tosh has to be using voo doo or has compromising photos of these kids and their parents.

Bama has 26? how many EEs? You're only allowed 25 in one year. Of USC's 11 commits, 4 are EE's and wont count towards the 15 USC is allowed. USC only has 7 2012 recruits (2 are soft verbals) and room for 8 (or possibly 10) more

Perhaps this is what Tosh is using to get recruits.
http://www.insidesocal.com/sgvfootball/ ... o-cal.html
McCarthy is expected to choose Cal because he's been told he will start right away as a freshman, a source said. The source also said that McCarthy was told by USC that he's not guaranteed a starting spot next season, but would be able to compete for one.

USC returns 19 of 22 starters. Cal is Cal. Which place is more likely to be able to promise an incoming frosh a starting gig?

The key word in USC's pitch is "compete for a starting spot." USC wants players who will compete at the highest level; players who will compete at that level every day, including against each other during practice. Cal? They seem to land those types who don't want to have to compete, so is it any wonder that for all their supposed talent they never achieve a damn thing while at Cal?

That's right, he doesn't have one... yet you bought right into it.

1.) Stanford
2.) UC Davis
3.) San Jose State
4.) Sac State
5.) De La Salle
6a.) Cal
6b.) Humboldt

Why are the So Cal's melting. You've got a hard on for a decent recruiting class. We're all waiting for a couple of years in the future when you come back and melt epically about how you got jobbed out of a conference championship, have to play in another shitty bowl game, got butt raped in that bowl game that you'll blame on the sun being in the eyes of the Cal players, the moon not being in the right astrological position etc.....
Congrats on a great class but remember that talent has to be coached, actually play games and that's where Cal is fucking horrible.
Congrats on your top notch recruiting class which will go .500 for the next 4 years.

Typical M2, losing his mind over a #10 ranking...

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/r ... 12/all/all

Careful, M2, remember the last time Cal got a sniff at the top? They were #2 in the country, about to become #1...until...

...DOH! They got Beavered! It took all of four seconds breathing that heady air at the top before Cal impoded.

In reality, they just woke up and remembered, "Hey, we're Cal. This isn't right. C'mon, guys, respect the brand. We gotta find a way to lose."

And so they did. And so they've continued to do, ever since.

Seriously, though, a #10 ranking is what's got you so hot and bothered? A #10 ranking is a bad, bad year for USC, or for any team that truly sees themselves as a title contender.

Also, since Cal is Cal, they'll probably end up having to start these guys as freshmen, so once again Cal will go 7-5 anyway.

Face it, dude, your only saving grace is the NCAA sanctions against USC. Because of that, you'll have a little window of opportunity, starting in 2013. Between 2013 and 2017, USC will be in the tank. During those years you'd best figure out how to get past Oregon and you'd also better hope that Stanford reverts back to being Stanford, otherwise the 100-year anniversary of 1938 is going to come creeping up on your loser ass sooner than you think.

I'm sure he is, but then he was always going to Cal. There was never really any doubt.

Ellis McCarthy was a different story. He and USC apparently cooled on each other at roughly the same time. It'll be interesting to see how he turns out.

That's the story with any Cal recruit. Will they do a damn thing while at Cal? And, if they do, will it make any difference in terms of wins and losses? One good—good, not great, mind you—recruiting class does not a quantum leap in program stature make, and Cal will need to make that quantum leap before they can even be seen as having any relevance.

Jeff Tedford is still their coach, isn't he? It seems to me that "Jeff Tedford!" is the reason given by M2 nearly every time Cal loses, and nothing's changed there.

Kal will never get a better coach than Jeff Tedford. Here is the major problem for recruiting for Kal and Stanford: Academic requirements to be accepted to those schools, unless they've changed the entry requirements.

Funny how Johnson steps back from his verbal just after the top WR recruit in the Texas class 5 star Cayleb Jones said he is no longer even taking calls or texts from other programs. What with Shipley already on campus Johnson prolly realized he is fighting for a third or fourth spot next season at Texas while at Cal he could be the number one guy immediately. But Johnson must not have seen the Holiday Bowl, cause there is no way he would go there knowing his QB can't even get off a pass.

All that said, get back to me in 5 years on this recruiting crap. U2 can claim bode all he wants but we wont really know who had the best class until 2017 and we can look back at this current group.

Totally disagree. Yes some schools have higher academic requirements but that is mostly for the general student population. Cal, Stanford, Rice, ND, etc all admit athletes that wouldn't be accepted if it weren't for their abilities on the field. Hell pick your favorite team and we can easily find some player that can barely speak the English language.

The only programs that I know of in FBS that don't bend their academic requirements are the service academies.

Lefty's right to a degree.

Furd is probably harder to get into... but once you're in... you're in.

Cal on the other hand is a tad different... you have to maintain your grades or you get booted.

That's why Cal is looked upon as the finer institution.
