Southern Euros do Siesta. Very popular in Spain and Italy. But, they do work until 8 PM or so.
The people I talked to said dinner is usually 9 or later nightly, lasting a couple hours hence their need to shut down business for a couple hours in the afternoon.
I also noticed that cars tend to be much smaller in Europe than in America, although this is at least partially of necessity. Roads are also much narrower there, since most roads there are built over pedestrian pathways that existed for thousands of years before the automobile arrived.
