Try to stay focused and on topic, old man. How is he such a poor cover guy but was voted the best in the nation?

That's because he wasn't asked to play traditional corner nearly all season. He mostly freelanced as an extension of the front seven, which is how he amassed the most tackles on the team and the most tackles for losses. One doesn't accomplish such things by immediately retreating into a backpedal on every snap, which is what most corners have to do.

He played in the SEC, and he had a dominant front seven. He didn't have to worry much about the passing game.

A "couple high profile games"? Come on, Sam. Now you're just being dishonest. He was SEC defensive player of the year, national defensive player of the year and unanimous first team All American at cornerback. If you'd like, I'll list his defensive accomplishments for last year in detail. You know, since you didn't get to watch all of his games.

Thats for you too, Van. Look, you guys can hate on him all you want. Like I said, I'm glad he's gone. But don't sit there and try to say he isn't a good corner.

Not for anything having to do with his cover skills. He received that award merely for being the poster boy for the celebrated LSU defense, a status which came as a result of a catchy nickname and all the big plays he made behind the opponents' line of scrimmage.

Put it this way: With his lack of size and cover skills he wouldn't even start at USC, where the corners have to give more than a winking nod to the passing game. Not even close. Because of his athleticism and nose for the ball they'd find some way to use him, but it wouldn't be as a starting CB.

College football's version of Darrelle Revis he ain't.

That won't be the case this year. Buncha gunslingers in the SEC this time around. Went from a no QB league to maybe THE QB league.

I also like your chances of seeing him play for you again next year. PR-wise, everything is lining up perfectly for such a scenario.

So he won national awards for having a catchy name? And he was named a unanimous All American at cornerback, but he's not good at that position? Nevermind. I see what I'm dealing with here. Pathetic. I'm done.

Sorry, Py, you can stomp your feet and pout all you want but the reality is that despite his awards he remains an undersized corner with meh cover skills. Fortunately for him, those issues didn't pose much of a problem at LSU due to the way they were able to utilize his other abilities.

When he enters the NFL draft, just wait and see what everyone says about him. I guarantee you they'll be saying, "Severely undersized, which will pose a problem for him when trying to cover so many tall WRs in the NFL. Average-at-best cover skills. Obvious concerns about his maturity. Good athlete, though, and a solid tackler with great instincts."

Oh, and Chris Weinke, Scott Frost and Gino Torretta also won lots of awards.

So now you've changed your tune and moved on to the fact that you don't think he'll be a good cover man in the pros. I can live with that and I agree. But you can't pout and stomp your feet and use those big two syllable words on me without admitting that the guy you say is not a good cover man, was named the very best in all of college football...unanimoo...unanan...by everybody. Dang it. I knew it would catch up with me.

Sorry, but you suck at the internet.

I haven't changed my tune in the least. He wasn't a good cover man for LSU either, but then he didn't need to be. In their system, it wasn't necessary. That was Morris Claiborne's job.

The point is the NFL will confirm that he's an undersized corner with meh cover skills.

No, he wasn't. No one ever said he was the best cover corner in college football. He received that award for his entire body of work, most of which was based upon making big plays behind the opponents' line of scrimmage. Those plays had nothing to do with good coverage skills.
Sorry, but you suck at the internet.
Says the guy trying to get over by using "Sincerely, 2001" lines.

Yeah, I won't worry about it too much. I manage just fine.

Just punt, Py. Empty nothings do not a decent argument make. You haven't even attempted to refute a single point I've made.

In fact, you're again coming off as nothing more than an SECBSH lightweight who relies solely on bumper sticker mantras for your vacuous talking points.

I can name a conference that has ONE QB that's better than all of those guys combined.

Take off the tard-colored glasses, SECBSH.

The only fact you gave me was that he won an award given to defensive backs. When I pointed out that he wasn't given that award based on his cover skills but rather for the other things he did, you simply queefed.

And that's all you've done.

That award was pretty jacked up, since TM wasn't the best DB on his team.

That too, definitely, and the fact that he was the blond mohawk-coiffed poster boy for LSU, but I also made specific mention of his big plays behind the opponents' line of scrimmage, his team-leading total of tackles, his team-leading total of tackles for losses, his TDs off of freelanced plays, etc.

You know, all those things traditional cover corners don't do.

Funny how you keep dodging those facts while sticking to your one lame bumper sticker.

Shame on you Van -- everyone knows that traditional cover-corners make all kinds of sacks and tackles-for-loss.

And everyone also knows that the hyphen is indeed necessary in 'cover-corner,' so I really ought to begin using it.

Not sure, either way. "Cover-corner" makes it seem like more of a single-entity, rather than an obscure adjective, so I went with it.

I'd say the technically-proper use would be the opposite of how the majority of SECBSHs use it.

No, you were correct to use it. Any strict application of grammar would require it there.

Anyway, it's all just apples and quality QBs.
