USC doesn't schedule that way, ever. Compared to just about every other real contender USC's OOC schedule of Hawaii, @Syracuse, and Notre Dame is still much better, and that's a fairly weak OOC schedule by their standards. I also don't want any "except USC" exceptions either. I want the exact opposite: I want consistency. I want USC to be included in that consistency.

Which USC most certainly has, which is why they were ranked #1 in the first place. It hasn't mattered in the least what time of year it is, either. #1 never falls when they win by more than thirty-five.
usc's resume at the time included a win over hawaii, bamar's a win over a recognized brand. the only other bit on sc's resume was their name.
otherwise, stop bitching about precedent. it shifts over time. was once a time when you didn't have to be a qb to win the heisman but now that's clearly not the case.
