That post, right there, warms my heart. Not in a gay way, mind you.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:Look, KC is no longer a pesky thorn in our sides. They are a legitimate threat. Detroit needs to get its shit together and stop losing to these slapdick teams. We have five straight series' coming up against .500 or below teams. The time to make some headway is now before we enter two pivotal series' against KC.
The Royals have now won 8 straight series. The last time that happened was 21 years ago, when George fucking Brett was still playing. In the meantime, if the Royals could lose a fucking game or two, that would be nice.
This team has a ton of confidence. Ned Yost is doing his best not to fuck that karma up. Lotsa haters around here but even they are starting to cut him some slack and realize he just might know how to manage a ball team.
Josh Willingham was a great addition. The last game I went to a few weeks ago, he hit a home run in his first AB. I was scared of him the rest of the night. I've always been scared of that guy. So nice to have him on our side now.

Josh Willingham has always been a bad ass. He was great when he played for the Nats.
Re: The official burial of Detroit
As soon as things start looking good, this comes along.
At least it is only regional. Jinx us not.

Re: The official burial of Detroit
The Royals aren't going away but unfortunately neither will Seattle. There's no backing into the playoffs this year.
Re: The official burial of Detroit
I would not have guessed Porcello would be the guy on that staff to have 3 complete game shutouts this year. The rare day where the Tigers win and the Royals and Mariners both lose.
Biggest story out of the AL yesterday had to be Garrett Richards shredding his knee. Looks like it's only a matter of time before the Orioles take over the best record in the AL.

Big game 3 tonight for sole possession of first place. Been raining all day though, so it might get postponed...
Re: The official burial of Detroit
The "epic" battle for playoff spots has kinda turned into a race-to-the-bottom.
A's are in a jaw-dropping freefall, yet haven't been stomped out of the running yet.

gripping hard over here, I have no finger nails left.
This has worn me quite the fuck out. I've run out of things to throw at the TV.
They had Max in trouble all night but couldn't put him away. 117 fucking pitches, are you kidding me?
Have you ever seen a grown man cry?
I'm going to put George Harrisons' - "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" on a continuous loop for the next 3 weeks.

Re: The official burial of Detroit
Props to Shields...gave the Royals exactly what they needed. Considering his recent history against the Tigers and the division lead on the line...that's a money effort by him. I'm satisfied with 2 of 3 from the Royals. The bigger series will obviously be next weekend back in KC.
Even if they don't win this division, the wild card is obviously in play for the Tigers. The A's and Mariners both lose last night so no harm, no foul.

Re: The official burial of Detroit
The month-long reign of the Royals is over but I think you still have to feel good about your chances of getting to October. The A's are in trouble.

Like I said before, we don't need no stinking wildcard and still control our own destiny.
But if they continue to piss down their leg like they have lately, they don't even deserve a wildcard, much less the AL Central.
Royals fan is nothing if not eternally optimistic.

Re: The official burial of Detroit
The only way the series this weekend could be any bigger is it were the final weekend of the regular season. Royals simply have to take 2 of 3 to have much chance of winning the AL Central. The crowds are going to be off the hook, the likes of which have not been seen in these here parts for 30 years.
oh please, oh please...
Yes, I'm begging.

Re: The official burial of Detroit
I was not surprised to see the Tigers tee off on Vargas. He sucks, and we've owned him in the past. But I still did not expect 10 runs on 19 hits. Wowzers.
I think what we're about to see here is the wheat separate from the chaff... and other assorted cliches. Detroit has been in these situations so many times before, regular season and post season. They have the veterans and know how to handle these big game moments. On the flip side, this is all new to KC, and I fully expect them to go down melting... except I hope they play just well enough to snag a WC.
I'm an AL Central homer like that.

Loved seeing J.V. pitch angry last night...
Shields has another huge start today. I don't expect Guthrie to save the Royals on Sunday...the Tigers wore him out in Detroit. Take 2 out of 3 and it would be a lot to expect the Royals to make up a 2 game lead in the final week.

Re: The official burial of Detroit
That tag up call was strange but even RoyalFan can't deny that they got the call right.
Re: The official burial of Detroit
Glad I picked the right game of the 3 to attend. Good win today. Great weather, and a sold out house. Today was one of only a handful of times I have every actually tailgated at a Royals game, and the without a doubt the only time I have in a full parking lot in September. Playoff hopes are still alive, but it is sure hard to imagine this pathetic offense winning a series against any of the contenders.
Re: The official burial of Detroit
You guys will be fine. Just don't go letting the Tribe close the gap (but please lose that the conclusion of the 10th inning game first). Seattle is too inconsistent to make up ground...it's looking like A's-Royals for the wild card.

Losing that game on Saturday was infuriating and possibly a back breaker. You just can't lose games like that and hope to win the division.
That said, the Twinkies have given Detroit fits. Here's hoping that continues.

A buddy of mine posted a couple of pics on fb yesterday from the game, and I submitted them to deadspin on a whim. I love the look on this kids face staring down the tiger fan.

Tailgating at a Royals game in the summer beats freezing your ass off at a Chiefs game in the winter, and the scenery is much better.kcdave wrote:Today was one of only a handful of times I have every actually tailgated at a Royals game...
You want to see the best KC prime rib? Tailgate a Royals game on a Saturday.

Meanwhile:
CWS - 2
DET- 0
KC - 2
CLE - 0
How symmetrical... yes Tiger sluts, you should be sweating your cum stained jock straps off.
Royals 1 game back with 6 to go and on a mission from God and Ewing Kaufman. They're a better road team than at home for some absurd reason.

Where the hell is Truman and "The Hunt For Blue October"?
That pisses me off more than leaving a runner stranded at 3rd with less than 2 out.
Fuck you, Truman.
You bailed, pussy.

Re: The official burial of Detroit
The A's are stabilizing and the Royals and Tigers are going to get in...just a matter of wants the Central title. The Twins have been the Tigers' nemesis this year...couldn't have a worse matchup to finish the season with a narrow lead. I give the Royals credit for putting down the Indians on the road when the Tribe still have something to play for. The Yankees and Indians can both be eliminated tonight and the Mariners are dead team walking.
Re: The official burial of Detroit
Back-to-back strong outings from Verlander...the lead lives another day.

Sorry, Wags, but I didn't see much point in gravy-training a thread that I deemed to be a bit too
I realize two out with four to go is not insurmountable (although unlikely) - hell, we bought tickets last night for the one-game playoff with Detroit should a tie occur - but I think our efforts would be better spent trying to figure out how to beat the A's Jon Lester in the one-'n-done next week. I'll take it - hell, its better than missing the playoffs entirely for the 29th straight year - but watching this team piss away the division the last two weeks has sucked.
Re: The official burial of Detroit
For me, anything less than a divisional title is a disappointment. Although, that could be eclipsed with a wild card, divisional win, and advancing to the ALCS.Truman wrote: I'll take it - hell, its better than missing the playoffs entirely for the 29th straight year - but watching this team piss away the division the last two weeks has sucked.

I don't know about the kids in Ghana but there's a certain geek in S. Korea who will be all pumped up, and it's not 'tart.Truman wrote: Hope the kids in Ghana enjoy their new, KC-logoed "We Own the Central" tees that should be in malls there come Monday.
Welcome to the party Tru, better late than not at all. As I type this DET is down 3-0 - hey, it could still happen.
I want the division but beggars can't be choosers. Plus, I like our chances against the A's and Angels if it comes to that.
Re: The official burial of Detroit
Porcello has been rotten in September. Big spot for the kid Lobstein today.
Re: The official burial of Detroit
I am really starting to wonder if either of these teams really wants to win.
Re: The official burial of Detroit
The Twins are the absolute worst matchup for the Tigers...it was going to be a bitch just to split with them.

Feel pretty good with Price on the bump today. This is the kind of game the Tigers normally win, but you never fucking know against our arch nemesis, the god damn 19-Game-Under-500 Minnesota Twins. But no matter what happens, props to KC for staying in the battle 'til the end. I kept expecting them to fade and it never happened.
Re: The official burial of Detroit
Love seeing all the important additions this year play a part in the win...Kinsler provides the offense, Price with the great start, Chamberlain locks down the 8th and Nathan looked good in the 9th to close it out.

Re: The official burial of Detroit
props to Detroit for doing just enough to avoid the early burial I had forecasted. It chaps my ass that Kinsler is a Tiger. I would trade Infante for him.
But I'm still a happy camper and these 2 teams may meet again.
