Re: Predictions
Iowa will be 10-0 when the Badgers come to Iowa City on November 22 to hand the Hawkeyes their first loss, but the Hawks bounce back to make black Friday even darker for Bo Pelini, and head to the CCG where they lose to Sparty.

Re: Predictions
I like the way you think, Mace (welcome back, btw).
The West division is more wide open than people think. Wisky is the popular pick but they have a ton of question marks outside of OL and RB. I don't think they return any starters off the front 7 of their D. Nebraska might be the most talented team but their schedule is brutal. Also sounds like they've been getting hit with the injury bug in fall camp. Meanwhile, there's Iowa, just sort of lying in the weeds which is when they typically do well. They have some question marks on defense too, but it's a unit that is traditionally stout. And a ridiculously easy schedule.

Re: Predictions
Iowa's conference schedule is, in fact, "ridiculously easy" compared to some of the other top teams, and I'm hoping they take full advantage of that. It's possible that they could go 12-0 in the regular season but I'd still pick them to lose the CCG to Sparty. I think the Iowa defense will be one of the best in the league if the three new LBs play up to expected levels and they will be very good up front and in the secondary. It may take a few games for the defense to run on all cylinders but they will improve as the season progresses. The OL will be as good as any in the league, with the possible exception of Wisky's, and they have a stable of running backs with different talents. I expect Rudock to be much improved at QB this year and cut down on his turnovers. Beathards will also be a quality backup and should get some playing time in the early part of the season. Overall, I think this will be the best Iowa team we've seen in a while and, as always, they are extremely well coached and will be well prepared each week. Saying that I'm excited about the upcoming season would be an understatement.

Iowa will probably lose to Ball State (causing Screwball to have to mop his own jizz), Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Wisky & Nebraska. 7-5 and a shit bowl. With the most overpaid coach in college football.

This season is the chance of a lifetime for Wisky. No tOSU. No MSU. No UM. No PSU. If they were to actually find a way to beat LSU, they could run the table. That is one mediocre schedule.
And no Braxton Miller in the CCG.

Jesus, this guy has yet to play a down of college football and people are already declaring him the next Barry Sanders. Maybe ease back on the crootin' hype just a bit. I'm sure he'll be very good in time, but we don't even know if LSU has a passing game yet, and if they don't, teams will just stack the box against this kid.Sudden Sam wrote:Chip, if Leonard Fournette is as good as they say, y'all may run for 400 yards a game!

What are the chances that LSU will keep their commitment to get on an AIRPLANE in two years and fly up to Lambeau for the return match?

Re: Predictions
LSU doesn't really blow people out. They struggled to dispatch a mediocre Iowa team, until late in the 4th Q in the bowl game. They play defense and ball-control offense. Both teams will bleed a lot of clock with ground-and-pound.
I think it will be close, but LSU pulls away to win by 7-10.

I feel like with all the hype it should be title or bust but I'm not totally sold on Trevor as a 14 game qb and with Mixon out the year the depth and inexperience at RB worry me.

By the way, it's about time they update their wardrobe and show a little cleavage. This isn't the 1930s.

Song Girls just dance to the songs that the USC Marching Band plays
It actually fits with SoCal, have daddy buy you a few after market upgrades and shake them in place of having real talent. Props to SC for keeping it real I guess.

that sleeveless number is pretty racy for the Song Girls. they used to wear turtlenecks. though, i tell you in 82 or 83 USC played OU in Norman. my dad and I walked behind the song girls along Jenkins by the (then) OU practice field...walking to the east side of Owen Field. and i felt something i never felt before. i was 10 or 11 or so. those skirts, rawr. welcome to the world of men.
so, i have a thing for the song girls.

2nd that take 100%. It would have been better if Strong had some Texas roots but that was exactly the kind of coach I was looking for.Harvdog wrote:I for one really like Charlie Strong. The first thing he did was set down rules to get rid of the malcontents. 9 players are gone and I say good riddence. He is making players responsible for their actions and holding them to a standard. This is something that Mack stopped doing. It was a country club and the inmates ran the asylum. Not the case now. They are expected to go to class and act like adults.Sudden Sam wrote:What's your take on your new coach? Are Texas folks excited? Scared? Unsure?
If you go to Archibald's, let me know your take on the atmosphere and the food.
I think Texas lacked toughness. I like what he's done in that aspect. Their is no coddeling. There is no media bullshit. Charlie is upfront and a no nonsense type of coach. I think we will be better organized and better prepared. I like his hires on both sides of the ball. I think the defense will be way ahead of the offense. If David Ash can manage the game and not get hurt...we could compete for the Big XII. I say in 2016.....they will be compteting for a MNC.
I think most people are excited about what he brings. There is a faction of retarded Texas fans that wanted Saban. It was never going to happen. Some feel like we "settled" for Charlie Strong. I don't. I think he is a good coach who will do great things on the 40 acres.

C'oo''gs', I hope you're not hanging from a shower rod somewhere in the greater Houston area. Rough way to start the season, with a 20 point loss to UTSA in your brand new stadium.Go Coogs' wrote:Houston has a really good shot at one of the New Year's Six bids. The defense lost a couple of good corners but returned everyone else. They led all of FBS in forcing turnovers last year (43) and have two ball hawking safeties returning and potential 2nd Team All-American ILB Derrick Matthews running the point on that front seven. I think the defense will continue it's surprising dominance.
As for the offense, I wasn't a big fan Doug Meacham's offense. The Cougars after a big read-option run play from the gun would go for a big gain, they would quick snap the same play on the very next play. It had little to no success. Meacham did this throughout the entire season and never really adjusted to running a different quick snap play. I liked the idea, but after it had very little success through the first four weeks of the season, he should have holstered it and went with something different. Also, he did not run a lot of slants and didn't work the middle of the field with the passing game enough. It's not entirely his fault the offense was lacking. The receivers were young and the QB was a true frosh. Most of the group is back and should be better than last year.
The schedule is pretty soft. They do have to travel to BYU and they have Cincy on the road at the end of the season, but other than those two games everything else should be a win.
10-2
Conference Champion
Re: Predictions
What's even worse than a suicidal C'oo'g's, is that I picked Houston. Seemed like a gimme.
Either off to a rough start, or Houston really sucks.

Oh boy, what a loss. I tell you what though, Monday morning I was at work bright and early and feeling good. My boss who is a huge Sparty fan comes up to me and says, "Well you must've had a rough weekend". I shot back real quickly with a big smile and said, "Not really. It's always a good day when you're a Michigan Man". He really didn't have a response, ha!
I still think we can reach our goals and win out the rest of the way and get to the Natty. After watching some other games in the big Ten this weekend I still don't see us losing to Sparty or Ohio.
GO BLUE!!
