'holic, if you had ever been to an opening day at Del Mar you would be hooked. Thousands of very pretty woman of all ages dressed in their best Classy/Slutty attire, the races are just a side show. Then there is the Ms. Cougar Contest with 40+ year old gals showing the young'ns how it is done.

I'm sure I have seen at least 95% of the triple crown races run in the last 45 years. I've never bet a nickel on any of them.

It's about time that someone weighed in on this thread who has up close experience with an actual filly.

So you don't bet on the ponies, and as a result, you've consumed a total of about 8 minutes of this "sport" in the last half century. That's pretty much my point. You've spent triple the amount of time in just one ball waxing session.

Pathetic if you ask me. In the 30+ years I spent in SD (much of it just a couple of miles away) I never went once to opening day, and only two or three other times (a post-race concert was usually involved). I'd rather watch paint dry.

I basically made the same point earlier using different words, to which you said "true enough." Have another B Minus, Whitey.

Watched the video again.

Hard to tell with the shitty quality, but, I don't think Turcotte went to the whip once in all three races. Even when he was a half mile out early at the Derby, although, he is so far out, he is off camera a good bit of the time. Check out how he kicks it into ludicrous speed going into the back stretch at the preakness. Goes by the fastest thoroughbreds on the planet like they are clydesdales.

Years ago I went to Arlington Park for an afternoon. Thoroughly enjoyable, actually won a little money. I should probably go back there again.

Your math skills suck, BTW.

It was an approximation for effect. Hence the word "about." How long is the average race? I assume less than a standard ball waxing session but slightly more than the amount of time it takes to pry Moving Sale from a small child or the amount of time it takes to pry Moving Sale from your ankle.

Secretariat ran the Derby in 1:59 & 2⁄5 secs. A proper waxing takes the better part of an hour.

How much actual "action" is there in a 60 minute 3 1/2 hour football game?

Maybe 150 total plays at about 4 seconds per play = 10 whole minutes.

Unless you count ball scratching and walking back to the huddle.

The 2 statements you made were not "basically the same point", though they were related.

Upon further review, I take back the "true enough".

While it pains me to give Goobs credence, he is correct. One can enjoy horse racing without having "any skin in the game". He and others in this very thread proved it beyond a doubt with their takes.

Go find something else you don't care about to hate on and leave my affinity for B Minus alone.

That does not surprise me considering 98% of attendees are of legal age and those that are not are kept under a pretty watchful eye by their guardians that brought them. To each his own.

The free Friday and Saturday concerts are cool as well. The biggest name this year is Offspring, Not a big fan but will probably make the effort, what the heck, take off early on a friday afternoon, $6 dollar entry, lose a couple of bucks on a couple of $2 exacta tickets, and a handful of relatively* reasonably priced beers.

*Compared to the highway robbery extracted at Petco or the Murph.

I would totally go see Offspring and some horses run. Platonically of course; the rumors are just that. Maybe.

Let's do it. I'll bring my kid too then it's not weird.

SHIT! 7/25 I'm taking him to WWE at Staples Center.

I just hope all of the horses get some earplugs. Making them listen to Offspring is just wrong.

It's a disgusting "sport" whose supporters are equally disgusting. Fortunately, I haven't detected any in this thread.

So how do you feel about the horses subject to a lifetime of being harnessed to Amish Buggies, pulling farm carts, woman barrel racing or stuck in yah-hoo western camps busting their backs hauling around fat-assed weekend cowboys.

So what if there are some horses that are bred to run fast, they generally lead a better life than most other draft animals.

Take your touchy-feel'ly attitude along with this participation trophy, :xxxl: , you earned it Sally.

You sound defensive. Probly because you know I'm right.

P.S. What the fuck do you know about the Amish? Nothing, that's what.
