It's been a long time but we had some good times in the Virgin Islands, both British and American. Buck Island Reef National Monument was pretty awesome but I hear there was a lot of hurricane damage to the coral sometime recently.

Went to Jamaica a few times 12-15 years ago, always to Ocho Rios. I misspoke earlier. Ocho was the beach that stunk of diesel. Had a good time, but wouldn't go back. Too much crime and poverty.trev wrote:I'm calling BS, goobs! You pee in the ocean, I just know it. ;)
I have only been to the western Caribbean. I know I need to visit the eastern part to maybe change my mind about it.
Been to Curacao once, mostly stayed at the resort. Decent food, nothing exceptional except for the night we ate at their sushi place. It was nice, but probably won't go back.
Been to Antigua once, mostly stayed at the resort which had its own private beach. Food was decent, especially a little place above the beach called Mary's Shack. She grilled chicken and burgers during the day and had a wash tub full of beer on ice.
Been to Aruba 3 times, food was exceptional for a buffet, and included a little floor show some nights. Also had a small Italian restaurant which you were allowed to eat in once a week, as well as a steak place. Started going off the resort in Aruba, found some very good restaurants.
All of the above destinations were all-inclusive, and for the most part Apple vacations. Which makes you inclined to stay on the resort property. Other than Ocho Rios, the beaches have all been very nice. There was a beach bar near our hotel in Aruba that featured live music in the evenings, usually for free. Aruba was always fun, but the most expensive of any of our vacations.
About 5 years ago we tried St. Maarten. Beautiful place, tons of very good restaurants, numerous beautiful beaches. You can get from one end of the island to the other inside of 30 minutes, even in rush hour. Better accommodations than we had at any other island.
We've talked about going to the Virgin Islands, but after visiting St. Maarten 5 times in 6 years, I just can't imagine going anywhere else. I'm thinking that when we retire, we can start taking more than one Caribbean vacation a year.
Went to Mexico once. Never again.

Yes, trev, you went to the wrong end of the carribean. GC is pretty much a sandbar. The eastern Caribbean has awesome beaches. I have been to PR, The Virgin Islands and Antigua. Some of the nicest beaches on the planet and great reef diving. We are going back to Antigua on our 25th anniversary next March. Went there for our honeymoon.
