I conceded that the thumpers do sometimes get a little too worked up about dudes jamming their cahks into other dudes. As for them fighting some battle against pron, maybe they did in the past, but, I'd say that one is pretty much over. As for the sunday liquor laws, CT recently dragged itself into the 21st century and permitted it, but, it had fukk all to do with religion. Sunday opening has been opposed by the liquor store owner lobby here forever. Having to be open 7 days and earlier/later means that small liquor owners actually have to look at hiring extra staff. They did manage to hold on to the ridiculous law that says a store with gas pumps can not sell beer. This means no beer sales at convenience stores, eliminating a big potential competitor.
So, as I said earlier, religious a-holes don't concern me much regarding their meddling in the legal/regulatory systems as they aren't very successful at it. I wish progtard nanny stater was equally inept.

They just allowed Sunday booze sales in NY about 10 years ago. The trade off was that to sell on Sunday you had to close on another day of the week. Of course that's just booze and wine. You can buy beer 7 days a week at any old supermarket and gas station. In fact the gas station down the street from me sells draft beer in growlers. Pretty sweet.

CT has had the most restrictive booze sales that I know of. Looks like NY is similar, though not as restrictive. Obviously due to our powerful thumper communities.

In California you can buy liquor, beer, and wine and mixers at the liquor stores and grocery stores 24/7. Your state will eventually evolve to that.
In TN, things are really messed up. No sales on Sunday. You can't buy liquor at a grocery store. You can't buy beer and wine at a liquor store. A liquor store can not sell mixers. If you are a bar, you have to serve food at your establishment. They are making it harder to get, but come on, people are going to get it anyway.

I never claimed a fetus is a citizen.
It's illegal to kill a fetus -- in most states.
Is it legal to kill a non-citizen in America?

Nevermind that hundreds of historical accounts are all at complete odds with the one written 1600 years later. The one written several hundred miles away, several hundred years later is obviously the correct account... if you're really fucking stupid.
Dude, do you realize how dumd you and your ilk sound? You constantly come on here and harp about how "the prophecy was fufilled." You say that shit ad nauseum.

It's the same fucking thing, and it's beyond laughable.
The KJB was written to keep the uneducated masses in their place, that of being subservient. How sad that the cheap ploy still holds true 400 years later.
But believe away. I'll support your right to do so, as it's none of my business... until it effects me. Just know that, beyond any and all doubt, that you're absolutely wrong. Not even up for debate. Simply you assuaging your ego and placating your need to feel enlightened. Just keep it to yourself, OK? I feel truly fortunate that I suffer no such feelings of inadequacy, since I don't feel inadequate, which is the root of radical religious zealousness.

The KJ Bible was not
written 1600 years after Jesus.
You have a fundamental misunderstanding, if this is what you think.
What was written (including specific prophecies) about Jesus was
on record hundreds of years before He ever walked the earth.
Jesus specifically and completely fulfilled these prophecies about the coming Christ.
As I've posted before, for example, a very narrow and specific family line for the coming Messiah was predicted by multiple authors hundreds of years before He was born.
These writing were ON RECORD before He arrived.
He came through that very narrow and specific line.
It is what it is.

Religious decline goes hand-in-hand with continued advancements in science and technology. Granted, we've still only scratched the surface of true understanding but we obviously know a fuckton more than we did back when Noah was molesting exotic animals at sea.
The only thing that might not make religion a completely obsolete practice is man's fear. No matter our understanding of our planet and the solar system, some people will always need to have something greater to believe in, in order to justify their existence and to assuage their anxiety of what lies ahead. Simply believing in an eternity of sunshine, puppies, and rainbows -- because it was written in a book a long time ago -- is so much easier to cope with than fretting over everlasting nothingness and/or the unknown.

I kid you not, that is the funniest thing I've ever read here in a long time. You are talking from your soul and what you've said is funny, but it is sad also. If you are going to die and there are no consequences, then why not rape, steal, murder and be smart enough to get away with it now while you are still living? There is nobody to answer to when you die, so why not get away with everything you can, right?
When you die, there is nothing. However, the shit posters that are stupid anyway will arise from the abyss and create a new board. They will call it... wait... "The Two Board."

That says a helluva lot about you - that basically, the
only thing that prevents you from being more of a dick than you already are is fear of the afterlife's consequences of your earthly misdeeds, and makes you ripe for the pickin' by organized (and even disorganized) religion. To me, that is far sadder than what you claim to be saddened by over Mgo's post.
Believe it or not, there is a significant segment of humanity whose morality is
not guided by fear of eternal damnation. Some people do what's right simply because it's right, and don't do what's wrong because it's wrong. You're obviously not among that segment, so it may be a difficult concept for you to grasp. Getting away with as much as one can is
not everyone's life goal. Fear of earthly punishment (shame, embarrassment, revenge, ridicule, public scorn, imprisonment, execution, etc.) is enough to keep some people on the straight & narrow, but others don't even need that. They do what is right because they get that they should for its own sake. That's not to say that institutionalized punishment should be abolished, because there are many who need deterrents to keep them from "getting over."
A strong argument can be made that Christianity in particular actually
promotes bad behavior. It teaches that we all are born sinners - that humans are, at their cores,
really evil beings (granted, many are). We simply can't help ourselves. So do what you're going to do, bad humans, but as long as you believe in Jeebus and accept him as Lord & Savior, you pretty much have a free pass to do what you like before the long dirtnap, because you'll be forgiven and have your ticket punched for Heaven no matter what you do, as long as you
believe. That concept elevates thought over actions - what you believe is more important than what you do. It's not at all shocking or incongruous that many mobsters are devout Catholics.
I'm reminded of the story of the 10-year-old boy who tells his parents that he's been praying for God to give him a bicycle. His parents explain to him that God doesn't work that way, so the kid steals a bike and asks God (or Jesus) to forgive him. Though perhaps unintended,
that is among the lessons Christianity teaches us.

This is not what Jesus taught us.
The woman caught in adultery was ready to be stoned, and Jesus forgave her.
Then He said to her...
John 8:11
go, and sin no more
Believers are consistently encouraged in Scripture to be upright, to avoid sin, and to continually seek the filling of the Holy Spirit.
Reason being, apart from the Holy Spirit is...
what spirit?
People are led by
something.
So while it's true that a believer is washed clean of all sin by the Blood of Jesus Christ, and will be fine in the afterlife, he is still very vulnerable to the effects of sin in this life on earth.
"Unhappy results" come to people when they pursue sin.
Sin is the channel through which satan works, for both believer and non-believer.
