Unless a person approaches those passages with a preconceived notion that the earth is a ball, there is no way they read those things and come away thinking that the earth is round.

Those lines are, once again, metaphoric, and they do not mean what you think they mean, no matter how badly you wish them to.
You you do know what a metaphor, which the Bible is rife with, actually is?
It is a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action which is not literally applicable.
Go ahead and sleep off the rice wine hangover and come back when your head is clear.
Which should be about never.

Christians...
Matthew 24:29 (Jesus speaking)
Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
Heaven is the firmament.
It's what God named it.
See Genesis 1:8.
Genesis 1:6-8, 14-18 says there is a firmament over the earth, and the stars are within the firmament.
If something is falling from heaven, guess where it's falling to?
Yes, and Revelation 6 also says stars will be falling -----> to earth.
Folks, there is a firmament.
Nothing is 4.4 light years away - and MASSIVE.
lol
Stars are "small" and are within the firmament.

Learning poptart really thinks the earth is flat is like finding out someone thinks 9-11 was staged. It's just that difficult to wrap your brain around that much conspiracy theory bullshit all at once.

That word would be idiotic. Obviously there are many more fill-in-the- blank choices available, but idiotic works just fine. The fact that the only "authorities" he leans on like a broken crutch, are a book of myths requiring blind faith and conspiracy videos and websites, shows just how desperate he is for attention and validation.
If it weren't so damn funny it would be kind of sad. Considering how long we have all "known" this fruit loop makes it so much more pathetic.
Or hysterical.
Either way, it is the penultimate board and life meltdown.

Well poptart, that is true, you have repeated this stance. So, let's try this from another angle. Do you at least acknowledge that we have sattelites in space, that enable us to get our phone, tv and Internet signals that we all rely on every day, including you? If so, then how do you account for the photos theynhave sent from orbitmof a curved horizon, a round Earth?poptart wrote:I think I've said repeatedly that I don't know for sure what the shape of the earth is -- and that I have many more questions than answers.B wrote:Learning poptart really thinks the earth is flat...

My brother in law spends way too much time on the internet and believes most conspiracy theories, and totally buys into the religious stuff too. I've never heard him tout the earth is flat nonsense...Yet. I'm sure it will happen since he's already an idiot.
I personally know many science teachers. One, who is in a choir and believes in Christ/religion, once explained the Big Bang theory to me in a totally believable way. The rest of science peeps I know either believe both science and the bible equally or think the bible is bogus and science is correct. There is nothing wrong with both of those, but in my mind, there is something very wrong with only believing in the bible and discounting science as nothing. Come on people, get real.

Re: Christians among us...
The Holy Spirit (God Himself) inspired Moses (and all other Bible authors) to write HIS Words for all of us to see.
Deuteronomy 13:7
Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth;
Psalms 67:7
God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.
God said there are ends of the earth, not sides of the earth, which would have been correct if the earth was a ball.
He spoke in terms of the earth being flat.
There are many other such verses in the Bible.

Re: Christians among us...
As I have tried to make clear, the Word firmament used over and over in Genesis 1 is raqiya in the original Hebrew.
For verification that it means a literal, tangible, physical cover or dome, see how Ezekiel uses it (raqiya) five times -- and each time it means a literal, tangible, physical cover or dome.
Read Ezekiel 1:22-26 and Ezekiel 10:1.
There is a literal cover over the earth, and within it God has placed the sun, moon and stars.
And above the cover is water.

As many times as he has taken to quoting the thing, taking a subjective word like "firmament" and using it as literal description of either tent, curtain or dome...which are three very different things, yet he implies they are all the same thing, well then yeah, he does.KC Scott wrote:Would it be a an accurate statement to say you a "Bible Literalist"?

Unless he admits otherwise, every single word, phrase and metaphoric description are truth, verbatim.
He has to buy into this wholesale and blindly, otherwise if one single word or passage were wrong, his entire house of flimsy cards comes tumbling down. The sad reality for pops is that there are any number of quotes you could refer to that contradict his personal viewpoint.
IF you Interpret them the right way. The entire book is subjective, it just depends on who is reading it.
What tart will never, ever admit to is that maybe, just maybe, he got at least one thing wrong.
House of cards and all.

Re: Christians among us...
Jay, did you read the passages from Ezekiel that I posted?Jay wrote:taking a subjective word like "firmament" and using it as literal description of either tent, curtain or dome...which are three very different things,
I'm guessing not.
As in Genesis, fiirmament (raqiya) is used multiple times there -- and it is a tangible physical covering.
Tent, done, curtain -- what it certainly can not be understood as, is a vast open space, billions of light years big.
With waters over it, btw.
lol
Did you read Job 37:18?
And of course we have this...
Words have meanings, Jay.
Let's just say I believe the Bible, Scott.Scott wrote:Would it be a an accurate statement to say you a "Bible Literalist"?

I've posted the following for Jay and AP, and I must say, I am underwhelmed by what they produced to date....
I've cited Scripture (many, and there are many more) which tells us...
- There is a firmament
- The sun, moon and stars are within this firmament
- The earth never moves
- The earth does not move around the sun, but the sun and moon move
- The earth is not round, but seems to be flat
You protest, even though I have shown you SO much clear Scripture for these things.
So let's begin...
There is no firmament: Cite the Scripture for this
Sun, moon and stars are not within the firmament: Cite the Scripture for this
Earth moves: Cite the Scripture for this
Earth moves around the sun: Cite the Scripture for this
Earth is round: Cite the Scripture for this
Earth is billions of years old: Cite Scripture for this
Man came from animals: Cite the Scripture for this

Genesis 6:1-5
[1] And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
[2] That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

[4] There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

Re: Christians among us...
Of all the Scripture you have decided to post 'tart, this is by far the most curious. So then, which specific waters are being divided from the other waters? Is this a reference to the water contained in the sky within clouds from the land based waters of the sea and other bodies? How and why is this firmament dividing them?poptart wrote:The Bible says there is water above the firmament.
Genesis 1:6-7
And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

As well, how is this relevant to your position on your "belief" in a flat Earth? I understand you have repeatedly said you "don't know" what the shape the Earth is, but you are at least suggesting it is "not round".
