Only if you want more of it. It makes more sense to simply foreclose on that tactic right up front. I treat trivial bullshit like trivial bullshit. How else are you supposed to treat it? Fortunately, my old ball and chain isn't prone to fly off the handle at trivial bullshit. On the very rare occasion that she does get wrapped around the axle over some trivial bullshit...I just don't care. I'll turn on a game and put the headphones on. She'll get over it so there's no need to overreact or even react at all.

It's not about imposing sharia law on your womenfolk. It's about setting clear boundaries in an adult partnership based on mutual respect. "Don't bother me with trivial bullshit" is I guess you could call it a rule. It's about respect. I don't do it and I don't take it. It doesn't anger me or anything. I'm just totally indifferent to it. I think I make that pretty clear up front so there aren't any surprises. Again, respect.

MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:"Happy wife, happy life" is without question the saddest, most pathetic, most emasculating phrase ever uttered in the history of man. If you live by this mantra, kindly remove the testicles from your shriveled ball sack and donate them to science or squirrels or something, because you simply have no use for them. Your alpha male status has hit 0, and while your wife may enjoy her control over you on some level, deep down, she won't respect you for it nor will she find you attractive.
Are you or have you ever been married? If so, how many times and how long did these last?

Not counting your co-habitation time with Screwy, that is. I don't want to know any more about that episode.

While I have a sneaking suspicion that you're of a follower of Nietzsche, I'd imagine you find a few of his aphorisms irreconcilable.
Namely, the lament of society's abandonment of the "superman".

A wife who is happy being an equal partner with you is a good thing. A wife who only derives happiness based on the premise that she gets to win every single point in the decision making process is a millstone around your neck.

He wants to feel better knowing some married people might not be happy with having a wife. He may be preparing himself to admit to the board that women don't appeal to him and instead he found Mr. Right.

On another note, I don't post at .net due to the overwhelming amount of shit trolls the 5 non-T1B posters use...but sometimes look to see if they have anything worth reading. I didn't know kcdave got a timeout here for posting a pic of Wag's apparently horribly ugly wife. If Wags is happily married to an unattractive woman, then props to him for keeping it real in KC.

I've never had a problem with either of the two, so I don't know why a few KC locals bring that drama for all to laugh at.

There's a kernel of truth in that happy wife, happy life thing, inasmuch as if your wife is a miserable bitch, your life ain't gonna be all that happy. But that's why God invented divorce.

I had a pretty happy life before I met my wife. My wife has only added to that. I think it's key that we were both capable of making ourselves happy as singles, so we're not dependent on each other now for our own happiness.

Screwball, on the other hand, is a misogynist at heart, and I expect him to have a thoroughly miserable marriage. His wife's decision to finally get that sex-change will be a make or break moment.

No. My longest relationship was five years and we lived together for the majority of that time. I never felt the need to bring a legal document into the dynamic. I am not anti-marriage, I just think people need to be more careful with what is essentially the most important decision of their lives. If or when I feel marriage will bring value or happiness into my life, then that is something I will consider. But one thing I won't do is settle for any relationship in which I am to change my personality or behavior in order to suit my wife's personal happiness level. If you can't be yourself around your wife, or you have to walk on egg shells constantly, you're married to the wrong person, or you shouldn't be married at all. It would be one thing if she was smoking hot but the problem with "happy wife, happy life" is that most of the dweebs who live by this mantra don't even have attractive wives, which makes their devoted submission to them that much sadder.

I suppose at the end of the day, we all do what works best for us. Some men need the structure of being a beta male to their alpha wife. Going forward, I'll try not to judge.

Fair enough.

We got married young because it seemed like the right thing to do at the time. Neither one of us really knew what we were doing and we've had our share of ups & downs. Barely made it the thru the first 3 years and even got separated for a few months.

But we got back together and 33 years later, I don't regret a thing. If I ever have any thought of regret, all I need do is remember my absolutely wonderful daughter (who will soon turn 28) and those selfish thoughts dissipate. She would not exist, yet she does, and the world is a better place for it.
But one thing I won't do is settle for any relationship in which I am to change my personality or behavior in order to suit my wife's personal happiness level.
Totally agree. She and I both knew the person we were marrying. We decided the good out weighed the bad.... and still does. Neither of us has really changed much except I quit smoking pot and snorting cocaine.... or anything else I could get my hands on

Damn. This is the first time I can remember, at least for a while, that I can give Goober a fully deserved RACK for a nearly perfect post. The divorce statement rings a little hollow, but otherwise, spot on.

No, I was just commenting that you may be ready to come out of the closet is all. You're asking people about marriage as if you're looking for justification for the forthcoming announcement. It must have struck a nerve. It's okay Screwey, I've always thought you were an angry homosexual anyway. No big deal.

The standard...

Ephesians 5:25-33
[25]Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
[26] That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
[27] That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
[28] So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
[29] For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
[30] For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
[31] For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
[32] This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
[33] Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
