Ed could be called an alcoholic. Not sure if he drinks as much as he used to.

McCready was addicted to heroin. I don't think Jeff and Stone were on anything. Same for the drummers.

I have an old friend who had a moderately successful thrash band which originally formed in Seattle at that time(moved back to Portland eventually), and kind of ran in those circles. I'm pretty sure he'd beg to differ.

I thought that LS was about my vintage, but, I guess you are a few years younger. Might as well be 100 years.

I am a '63 model, which means I am barely old enough to have experienced the last few years of the classic rock era, first hand. Not sure if 80s hair metal is considered classic rock. I definitely do not consider 90s grunge CR, but, it sure as hell is a step up from 80s big hair metal.

Rack Andy Granitelli and his STP suit BTW. That thing is awesome. I wonder if it is still around? I'll bet there are old school Indy car fans who would pay a few bucks for it. Personally, when I think of STP, I think of King Richard and his superbird. The highwater mark of neckcar, as far as I am concerned. Yeah, today it has far better commercial success, but, what they run today is an awful long way from anything resembling a stock car.

Just went and looked for a Superbird pic and guess what? No STP. :? He picked up STP as a sponsor in 72. I thought he was with them way back in the 60s, but I guess not.

He did kind of have to keep Layne on-task.

The acoustic in that clip sounds fukking horrible. Sounds like a flat banjo. Almost letsturd level of tonal horror.

Layne was great. Sad how he ended up and the way he died. Great voice.

So, my local sports radio guys (who do the rare great local show -- very funny) just told the tale of Weiland being in the studio down the hall, so they roped him into their booth for an interview. Said the only thing they remember about him was his ridiculously flamboyant garb, and him being wasted off his ass while bragging about being sober "for years."

Uhm... Whitney Houston died of complications from cocaine abuse. I don't think anyone has ever mentioned her shooting it up.

I'll reluctantly admit to having witnessed the cocaine culture as a young man. And I don't recall anyone ever pulling out a spoon to ingest cocaine. A glass pipe and a lighter/blowtorch? Sure.

So, in short... epic fail.

You're missing the point. The same meme was used for both (regardless of accuracy).

This guy write a good article on the different ways to screw up your life err, make crack and free base. Diego's point was poorly made, but yes, a spoon can be used to cook small amounts. Most crackheads get the rock premade though. Also, that was not crack in my picture.
