Is the fact that these two were the two major party candidates all that surprising or remarkable? To run for President you have to be a self centered egotistical blow hard ass. I've run into very few people (somewhere around "none") who ride his jock. I've run into myriad people who are relieved that Crook didn't get the job, but I think I'm yet to meet an actual Trump fan.

But then again, look where I live. My core group of friends is an odd mix of liberals and conservatives, some at far ends of the spectrum (yet we all get along just fine), and none of them was/is a fan of either. But I live in Liberal Utopia, so the cross section I have to work with isn't a good national representation (but I'm guessing few places are).

But just about any opinion I've heard wasn't a vote "for" anyone -- it was a vote against the other.

As has been rehashed a buhzillion times -- 330 million people in this country, and that was the two we came up with. I could pick the two drunks arguing sitting at the bar, and flipped a coin for party alignment, and I'm certain they would have been more reasonable candidates.
