At that time he didn't know that his lawyer (M. Cohen) paid the porn star $130,000, because M. Cohen paid that on his own.
Cohen didn't see any reason to tell Donald about this payment.
Further, Cohen knew he would get the money back because Don paid him fairly large amounts of money from time-to-time, for miscellaneous help he provided.

Cohen paid the money on his own, and did not tell Donald Trump about it, and for what reason?

Oh, he paid this porn skank $130,000 so that she would keep her mouth shut about... a sexual encounter with Donald that never happened.
