U.S. manufacturing dives to 10-year low as trade tensions weigh

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. manufacturing activity tumbled to a more than
10-year low in September as lingering trade tensions weighed on exports, further
heightening financial market fears of a sharp slowdown in economic growth in
the third quarter.

The survey from the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) on Tuesday came on
the heels of data last week showing a cooling in consumer spending in August.
The economy’s fading fortunes have been attributed to the Trump administration’s
15-month trade war with China, which has sapped business confidence and
undermined manufacturing.

The federal deficit rose to $984 billion in fiscal year 2019, the Congressional Budget Office estimated on Monday, an increase of $205 billion.

The deficit was 4.7% of gross domestic product, the largest since 2012 and larger for the fourth year in a row. The annual shortfall is also roughly 50% larger than when President Trump took office.

The federal budget deficit is big by historical standards, and federal debt is expected to rise significantly in the years ahead, to the largest size relative to the economy since World War II. Economic growth is also expected to slow slightly in the years ahead.

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell and other mainstream economists have said the government's fiscal course is not sustainable...

This is exactly what is wrong with you snowflake racist liberals. I start a company and take a huge risk. I take on a ton of personal debt and put my house on the line. I work hard, create new jobs, and the company grows. I hire more people, creating more new jobs and pay off my start-up debt. After all of that you think the "poor" have some sort of right to the money I make. Further more you think you have some right to the money I make.

Please tell me how my starting a company and working hard and creating jobs is keeping the poor from getting theirs?

Then explain to me how wanting to keep more of the money I worked for and earned is greedy?

Labor force participation

Image
https://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNS11300000

Labor force participation remains significantly lower than it was before the financial meltdown of '08 and '09.
It has barely blipped up on Donald's watch.

We had the terrible 1.9% GDP number a couple of weeks ago.

Obscene, record deficits.

As posted last month, U.S. manufacturing is at a 10 year low.

It is coming down, folks.

The stock market is a total illusion.

I am on record -- Dow takes a 30% (at least) haircut by December 25th.

Happy Holidays!

I'm old enough to remember when Suckaholic was shitting all over Obummer saying the unemployment rate was way higher than the official number.

Wonder why he doesn't say that anymore.

So the labor participation rate fell off under Obama and then flat lined. Recently it has started ticking upwards.

But Screwy’s point is valid, the unemployment rate numbers are flawed in that they don’t take into account those that have dropped out of the labor pool. A much better indicator would be the number of food stamp recipients. That number recently reached a 10 year low.

But hey don’t rely on just my word, liberals are saying it as well:
The number of SNAP participants largely depends on the economy, said Brynne Keith-Jennings, senior research analyst of the left-leaning Center on Budget and Policy Priorities

Liberals are not the same as leftists.
Liberals love liberty.
Leftists are the enemy of liberty and for government control.

The U.S. fiscal deficit topped $1 trillion in 2019, the first time it has passed that level in a calendar year since 2012,
according to Treasury Department figures released Monday.

The budget shortfall hit $1.02 trillion for the January-to-December period, a 17.1% increase from 2018, which itself
had seen a 28.2% jump from the previous year.

For the fiscal year, which began in October, the shortfall is already at $356.6 billion, an 11.7% increase from a year ago...

President Donald Trump had vowed that his stimulus policies, including massive corporate tax cut and aggressive deregulation, would help stem the red ink coming from Washington, but it has only increased. As deficits have swelled, so has the national debt, which is now at $23.2 trillion.
Deficits only matter when liberals are in charge.

The GOP has totally forfeited any high ground it ever had on out of control government spending, as well as morality.

Trump supporters are those who fully embrace having a white nationalist authoritarian figure heading up the country.

It's not that I seek to go "Hitler" here, but it is sort of obvious, isn't it?

Nice try, Derron.

The stock market not coming down does not change the fact that Donald is running up MASSIVE debt.
It does not change the fact that such debt is projected FAR into the future, on his watch.

It does not change the fact that the fed cannot raise interest rates, and that your president is calling for negative interest rates. LOL
It does not change the fact that U.S. manufacturing is at a ten year low.
It does not change the fact that U.S. GDP is very low.
It does not change the fact that labor force participation remains lower now than it was prior to the meltdown of '08 and '09.
It does not change the fact that the fed engaged in an ongoing repo scam of EPIC proportions in order to keep the banking system afloat.

The economy is on life support.

But continue to remain a total idiot, Derron.
It suits you well.

Of course I care. I own a business that employs real people. The economy goes down, people fly less. Less flying means less need for my business and employees.

Yes I am glad the tax rate was cut. It was stupidly high and still is. Spending is also stupidly high and needs a severe hair cut today.

What we don't need is Pocahontas or her types that want to massively increase spending and have admitted they will make an end run around Congress to do it on their first day in office.

All that said, if this economy is a sham, then so was the economy under Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, Carter, Ford, Nixon, Johnson, Kennedy, et al.
