I meant that they aren't allowed to bargain for their services, other than tuition, board, meals.
This in my opinion, makes it a form of indentured servitude.
Each side gets consideration for their "services" or goods. The school leverages the athletes for whatever they can get and the athlete gets a free education. Works for both sides.

I'm with blind squirrelolic on this one. It's damn close to indentured servitude. They have no other outlet, so it is a kin to a contract of adhesion, but it's a contract of adhesion for services which is problematic. It's not really a no competition clause in a contract because it is contact for goods supplied for the athletes' services not services for money. It's a sticky wicket for sure.
